Bean Soup Recipe

1 (16 ounce) package dried navy beans

7 cups water

1 ham bone

2 cups diced ham

¼ cup minced onion

½ teaspoon salt

1 pinch ground black pepper

1 bay leaf

½ cup sliced carrots

½ cup sliced celery
Instructions
Prepare all the ingredients.

Rinse the beans and place them in a large stockpot. Add water, bring to a boil, and simmer for 2 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let sit for 1 hour.

Add the ham bone, cubed ham, onion, salt, pepper, and bay leaf to the pot. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat, cover, and simmer for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the beans are tender.

Stir in the carrots and celery, then cook until tender, which should take about 10 to 15 minutes.

Take the ham bone out of the pot and place it on a cutting board to cool. Once it's cool enough to handle, remove the meat from the bone and chop it into bite-sized pieces.
