Beer-Glazed Brats with Sauerkraut

Ingredients Needed
-
⅛ teaspoon celery seeds
-
⅛ teaspoon caraway seeds
-
1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle lager beer
-
1 tablespoon light brown sugar
-
2 teaspoons dry mustard powder
-
1 teaspoon onion powder
-
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
-
⅛ teaspoon dried dill weed
-
1 pound fresh bratwurst sausages
-
1 pound sauerkraut (preferably barrel-aged), drained
Instructions
-
Crush the celery seeds and caraway seeds using a mortar and pestle until finely ground.
-
In a bowl, combine beer, brown sugar, dry mustard, onion powder, pepper, dill, and the crushed seeds. Stir until the brown sugar dissolves.
-
Place the bratwurst in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Pour the beer mixture over the brats and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
-
Uncover the skillet, increase the heat to medium, and cook the sauce until it thickens into a syrupy consistency, about 20 minutes. Tilt the skillet to coat the brats in the thick sauce. Once coated, transfer the brats to a plate and cover to keep warm.
-
Add the sauerkraut to the skillet, stirring to mix with any leftover sauce. Cook for 5 to 8 minutes. Transfer the sauerkraut to a serving platter and top with the warm brats.
