Classic Pork Pie

Ingredients Needed
-
2 pounds lean ground pork
-
1 pound lean ground beef
-
1 ½ cups mashed potatoes
-
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
-
salt and ground black pepper to taste
-
1 (14.1 ounce) package double-crust pie pastry, thawed
-
1 large egg white, beaten
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
In a large skillet, cook pork and beef over medium-high heat, stirring often, until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes. Drain off excess fat.
-
In a large bowl, combine the cooked meats, mashed potatoes, nutmeg, salt, and pepper, mixing until evenly distributed.
-
Line a 9-inch pie dish with one pastry crust. Fill with the meat mixture. Top with the second pastry crust, sealing the edges and crimping them. Brush the top crust with beaten egg white, and cover the edges with foil to prevent over-browning.
-
Bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking until the crust is golden brown, approximately 15 more minutes.
