Deliciously Creamy Baked Mac and Cheese

Ingredients Needed

1 (16 ounce) package elbow macaroni

½ teaspoon salt

¾ cup salted butter, softened - divided

1 cup sour cream

1 tablespoon cream cheese, softened

1 (8 ounce) package shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

1 egg yolk
-
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

1 cup milk

1 (8 ounce) package shredded mild Cheddar cheese
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook the elbow macaroni until it's just shy of al dente, about 7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Drain and transfer to a bowl. Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 cup of butter, stirring until well combined.

In a separate bowl, blend 1/4 cup butter, sour cream, cream cheese, sharp Cheddar cheese, and egg yolk. Gradually stir in flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, cayenne pepper, and milk until smooth.

Spread 1/4 cup of the sour cream mixture in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Add the rest of the mixture to the macaroni and stir well. Pour the macaroni into the dish over the sauce layer and top with mild Cheddar cheese.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until bubbly and the cheese has fully melted.
