Indulgent Potatoes au Gratin

Ingredients Required

3 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and very thinly sliced

3 cloves garlic, minced

¾ teaspoon salt

1 cup heavy cream, divided

freshly ground black pepper to taste

freshly grated nutmeg to taste

2 cups freshly shredded Gruyere cheese, divided
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Place the potatoes, garlic, and salt into a large pot, then add enough water to cover the ingredients. Bring the water to a boil, reduce the heat to medium, and simmer until the potatoes are tender but not falling apart, about 8 to 10 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer half of the potatoes into a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Drizzle half of the cream over the potatoes, then season with black pepper and a pinch of nutmeg. Top with half of the Gruyère cheese. Add the remaining potatoes in a second layer, seasoning with more black pepper and nutmeg. Pour the rest of the cream over the top, then sprinkle with the remaining Gruyère cheese.

Bake in the preheated oven until the cheese is golden and bubbly on top, approximately 1 hour.

Cooking Tip
To avoid any mess, consider placing a sheet of aluminum foil on the lower oven rack in case the casserole bubbles over, or set the baking dish on a rimmed baking sheet.
