International Delight Settles the Question: Can You Freeze Coffee Creamer?
Coffee creamer is a must-have for many households. Whether you buy it in a bottle or make your own homemade batch to use throughout the week, it's the perfect way to enhance your coffee quickly.
But sometimes you end up with too much creamer, or you buy more than you need (perhaps a new seasonal flavor caught your eye), and you're left wondering how to store the extra. Liquid dairy creamers typically last one to two weeks in the fridge, which might leave you considering freezing any leftovers. But is it safe to freeze creamer, and if so, what’s the best way to do it?
Can Coffee Creamer Be Frozen?
Freezing creamer is a simple solution for storing excess, but some brands caution that freezing may alter the flavor. While frozen creamer is safe to consume, it could lose some of its original freshness.
“Frozen and thawed International Delight creamer is safe to consume, but its taste and texture will be significantly different from what you're used to—and that’s unfortunate. If you must freeze it, we recommend thawing it slowly in the fridge,” says International Delight about their coffee creamer.
“Keep in mind that we can’t guarantee the quality of creamer after freezing, and it doesn't extend the creamer’s shelf life. It’s still best consumed by the expiration date on the bottle.”
The same principle applies to homemade coffee creamer that’s been frozen. As with many foods, freezing and thawing changes the texture and flavor since it’s not as fresh as it originally was. That said, it remains delicious and is a helpful option when you need coffee creamer.
How to Freeze Coffee Creamer
Storing coffee creamer in the freezer is easy. If you bought extra bottles, simply transfer the creamer to an airtight container or mason jar. Do the same with any leftover homemade creamer, then pop it in the freezer until you need it.
You can store creamer in the freezer for up to six months. When you’re ready to use it, thaw it in the fridge overnight and consume it within two weeks.
Another great method involves using an ice cube tray. Pour any leftover coffee creamer into the tray, freeze, then transfer the cubes into an airtight container or zip-top bag. This way, you’ll have convenient single-serving portions ready to use whenever you need them.
