Savory Meatloaf Patties

1 egg, lightly beaten

1 slice soft bread, blended into crumbs

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon ground black pepper

1 pound lean ground beef

1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce

3 green onions, chopped

2 ¼ tablespoons brown sugar, or to taste

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

2 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard
Instructions

In a large bowl, combine egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. Crumble the ground beef into small pieces and add it to the bowl; mix well with your hands until the beef is fully moistened. Shape the mixture into four even patties.

Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties until they are browned on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove them from the skillet and set aside to drain excess grease.

Return the skillet to medium heat and stir together tomato sauce, green onions, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and yellow mustard. Gently add the patties back into the sauce and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for about 10 more minutes, until the patties are firm, thoroughly cooked, and reach an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C) when tested with an instant-read thermometer.
Chef’s Tip
For a healthier alternative, I’ve baked these patties at 400°F (200°C) in the oven instead of frying, and they turned out perfectly!
