Say hello to Cookie Fries: The Dessert That's Taking Over in No Time
It’s hard to beat a classic side of french fries—they’re so irresistible that even Simone Biles would agree. But for me, chocolate chip cookies come in a close second. I’m always eager to try new spins on this beloved treat.
If I had to pick between chocolate chip cookies and french fries, it’d be a tough call. But honestly, why choose when you can have both?
Luckily, a popular TikTok trend has merged these two comforting favorites into one delightful creation, and I’m totally on board. Every time I see one of these clips pop up, my curiosity is piqued. Naturally, I had to test it out and see if these two foods can actually get even better together.
Cookie Fries: TikTok's Hottest New Dessert Trend
As fall rolls in, it’s time to fire up the oven, press play on a cozy movie (or Gilmore Girls), and snuggle up with a blanket.
All this needs is a delicious treat to match the vibe. Fortunately, TikTok has just the thing—a fun, easy dessert to elevate any autumn movie marathon: cookie fries.
Cookie fries are exactly what they sound like—cookies shaped like fries, perfect for dipping into melted chocolate or milk. The trend was first shared by TikTok user @taylorjames1992, and it’s since been recreated by many, even Nestlé Toll House.
The concept is so simple, I’m surprised it took this long to go viral. Commenters on the original posts can’t get enough of it. “I’ve never wanted something more,” one user shared. “I didn’t know I needed this until now,” another said. In fact, one commenter on a different viral video of the recipe declared that these fries would be “gone in a minute.”
No wonder it’s catching on so quickly! I’ve never met a cookie dough creation I didn’t love, so I had a feeling this trend would live up to the hype. Still, I had to try it for myself to be sure.
My Honest Take on the TikTok Cookie Fries Trend
Sticking with the simplicity of easy desserts, I went for store-bought Nestle Toll House cookie dough. My first observation is that turning the dough into fries does take a bit more time. Sometimes, you want to enjoy making cookies without the extra steps, but I was curious if the extra time would be worth it.
To shape the cookie fries, I took a pre-sliced block of dough and cut it into small rectangles, just like french fries. While many recreate this with a crinkle cutter, I simply used a regular knife to slice them and arranged them on a cookie sheet.
I also chilled the unbaked cookie fries in the fridge for a few hours, hoping this would help them keep their shape. Once they were ready, I baked them at 350°F for about 10 minutes.
The result was almost identical to the TikTok video from Nestle Toll House, which makes sense since I used their dough. I wasn’t disappointed—they turned out to be adorable cookies. But, I probably should have used less dough for smaller, crispier fries. Even after chilling, they spread more than I expected.
Naturally, they were delicious. But was the extra effort worth it? If you're a fan of cookie edges, the answer is definitely yes. This turned nearly all of my dough into crispy cookie edges, which many people consider the best part. Plus, they’re so fun to dip in ice cream, milkshakes, or just a glass of good old milk.
This trend is more about the experience than any major flavor breakthrough. Shaping your cookies like fries won’t revolutionize the taste, but it’s a fun activity to do with friends or during a cozy night in. If you’re looking for a creative twist on cookies, I say give it a go. The worst that can happen is you end up with some extra-crispy treats.
Making these cookie fries was a blast, and it couldn't have been simpler. It felt like the perfect way to celebrate the upcoming fall season without diving into a full-blown baking session.
Now that I've tried this trend, I’m excited to keep experimenting with new ways to dip my cookie fries. Usually, I’m all about ketchup with french fries, but I’ll need to think of something special for these sweet treats.
