1 bunch gai lan (Chinese broccoli), trimmed

3 tablespoons hoisin sauce

2 tablespoons white sugar

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root or to taste
Instructions

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the Chinese broccoli in the boiling water for about 4 minutes, or until just tender. Drain and transfer to a shallow serving dish.

In a small saucepan, whisk together hoisin sauce, sugar, soy sauce, cornstarch, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Heat over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes, until the sauce thickens and becomes clear. Pour the sauce over the broccoli and toss to coat. Serve immediately.
