Target has rolled out a surprising new feature for its Drive Up grocery service.

Some people enjoy the experience of shopping in-store for groceries and home essentials, while others prefer the convenience of ordering online and picking up curbside. Curbside pickup can be a real time-saver and a way to avoid impulse buys, especially at a place like Target, where it’s hard not to browse the aisles on your way to the grocery section (no wonder it’s tucked in the back!).
It's easy to get sidetracked in a store like Target and leave with more than you planned to buy. With so many tempting items between the entrance and checkout—like the Starbucks café found in many locations—it's tough not to pick up something extra. If your love for a Pumpkin Spice Latte has kept you from trying curbside pickup, Target's new service might just change your mind.
Don’t worry, Target isn’t getting rid of its in-store Starbucks cafés. Instead, it’s launching a feature called 'Drive Up with Starbucks,' which lets customers add drinks and other café items to their curbside pickup orders.
Target has already tested the service at select locations with great success. By early October, the coffee-to-car option will expand to over 1,700 stores across 25 states that offer both Starbucks and Drive Up. This makes Target the first retailer to offer such a service on this scale.
How the Target Drive Up with Starbucks Service Works
Are you already planning which Starbucks treats you'll add to your next Target curbside pickup order? In the pilot stores, the most popular items delivered curbside were the Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, birthday cake pop, and Iced Caramel Macchiato. But feel free to order anything from the Starbucks menu.

What to Do When Your Location Starts Offering the Drive Up with Starbucks Service
The Starbucks curbside service isn’t a separate option. You can only add a Starbucks order to an existing Drive Up order. Once you’ve placed your order at a participating Target store, you'll receive a notification letting you know it's ready. After confirming you’re on your way, you can place your Starbucks order.
Target will prompt you to choose from the full Starbucks menu at the location. After you make your selection, simply click 'Add for Drive Up,' complete your payment, and your drinks and food will be packed up for safe delivery. When you arrive, let the store know you’re there, and your Starbucks order will be delivered along with your regular Drive Up items.
You’ll be able to drive off with your hot or cold drink in hand—maybe even share a cake pop with the kids in the back seat (and keep one for yourself). No need to leave the car, and it beats waiting in a long Starbucks drive-thru line or heading inside the store. Sounds much more convenient, doesn’t it?
