Trail-Ready Oatmeal
Ingredients Needed
-
1 cup instant oats
-
2 tablespoons chia seeds
-
2 tablespoons slivered almonds
-
4 teaspoons brown sugar
-
2 teaspoons powdered peanut butter (such as PB2)
-
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
½ teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
-
1 pinch salt
-
2 cups water
-
1 (1.2 ounce) package peanut butter (such as Justin's)
Instructions
-
Pre-make the oatmeal mix by combining oats, chia seeds, almonds, brown sugar, powdered peanut butter, cinnamon, cocoa powder, and salt into a resealable sandwich bag before your trip.
-
When you're ready to cook, bring water to a boil in a pot. Add the oatmeal mixture and stir briefly. Remove from heat and cover until the water is absorbed, about 5 minutes. Stir in peanut butter for extra creaminess.
Helpful Tips
For a single serving, simply halve the recipe when prepping. If you're packing for multiple days, consider using a separate bag for each day to streamline cooking. I prefer using a Nalgene bottle to measure water accurately.
Any variety of Justin's nut butters works great for this recipe.
