Understanding How Voting Works
For our annual World's Best Awards survey, T+L invites readers to share their travel experiences worldwide—evaluating the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. This year, over 186,000 T+L readers participated in the 2024 survey, casting more than 700,000 votes across 8,700 properties (including hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).
Islands were rated based on the following criteria:
- Natural attractions and beaches
- Activities and sights
- Dining and food
- Hospitality and friendliness
- Overall value
Participants in the survey rated each characteristic as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores reflect the average of these ratings.

No matter what type of island lifestyle you seek, you’ll find it among the selections ahead.
