A New Under Canvas Glamping Camp Is Set to Arrive in This California National Park

Get ready for an exciting new way to explore the towering sequoias, stunning waterfalls, two remaining glaciers, and breathtaking granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome at Yosemite National Park. Under Canvas has revealed plans for its first camp in California, located just outside the park.
Known for its distinctive glamping-style tented camps near national parks primarily in the American West, Under Canvas will open its latest outpost on May 22, 2025, nestled within 80 acres of forested terrain just 10 minutes from the west entrance of Yosemite National Park.
“We are excited to launch our 12th Under Canvas camp in California, a location we've aimed for over the years,” stated Matt Gaghen, CEO of Under Canvas, to Dinogo. “Each of our sites offers a unique experience, and we're particularly eager to provide guests with exceptional access to Yosemite National Park.” He emphasized that “visitors will be able to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying comfort and elegance.”
The tents at the Yosemite camp will feature king-sized beds with heated mattress pads, bedside lanterns, and USB charging ports, along with en suite bathrooms equipped with a sink, hot shower, and flushing toilet. Each tent will also have a private deck, with some including stargazing windows above the bed (the camp's sister site, Lake Powell-Grand Staircase, was the first lodging worldwide to receive DarkSky Lodging certification from DarkSky International in 2023, a recognition also awarded to Under Canvas camps in Zion, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Moab soon after).

As with all Under Canvas locations, the 70 accommodations will encircle a central lobby tent. The Yosemite site will include communal lounge areas adorned with West Elm furnishings, a game zone, and an indoor-outdoor café-style dining space offering seasonal cuisine along with a variety of California wines and craft beers. Acknowledging that guests will spend their days in the national park, the camp will provide grab-and-go lunches and snacks for purchase, along with an Adventure Concierge available to assist with booking activities such as rafting, rock climbing, and guided hiking. In the evenings, guests can enjoy complimentary activities like yoga, live music, and a s’mores bar.
Emphasizing a commitment to minimizing environmental impact and enhancing guests’ connection to nature, the camps do not provide Wi-Fi and conserve water with pull-chain showers and low-flow toilets. Conveniently, the bus stop for the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System is located directly across from the property, facilitating park access without the need for personal vehicles.
Under Canvas first announced the Yosemite location in 2019, originally intended to debut in 2020, but the opening was postponed. The three other California camps announced alongside Yosemite, including those near Joshua Tree National Park, on Catalina Island, and in Sonoma, have since been canceled.
Reservations for the inaugural season of Under Canvas Yosemite, running from May 22 to October 27, 2025, are now open, with rates starting at $319 per night.
In the summer of 2024, Under Canvas will operate 11 locations, including Acadia, Bryce Canyon, Glacier, Grand Canyon, Great Smoky Mountains, Lake Powell-Grand Staircase, Moab, Mount Rushmore, North Yellowstone, West Yellowstone, and Zion. Additionally, Ulum, the more upscale offshoot of Under Canvas, which Dinogo recognized as one of the best new hotels in 2024, is currently open.
