An 8-year-old boy has made history as the youngest person ever to scale California’s El Capitan.

On Friday, an 8-year-old boy achieved the remarkable milestone of becoming the youngest to conquer El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, California. His father, who has been supporting him throughout the journey, shared the exciting news after they completed their climb earlier this week.
Sam Adventure Baker reached the summit on Friday evening, as confirmed by his father in a Facebook update.
“What a phenomenal week! I couldn’t be prouder of Sam,” Joe Baker wrote in his post. “He just completed the youngest-ever rope ascent of El Capitan!”

Since Tuesday, the father-son duo have been climbing as part of a four-person team, where one climber ascends ahead to secure the ropes for the rest of the group to follow.
Earlier on Friday, the pair shared with Dinogo that they planned to hang a banner on their ascent that reads, 'I love you, Mom, almost there.'
Rock climbing has been a family tradition for years. Sam was strapped into a harness before he could even walk, his father shared, noting that his wife also shares a passion for the sport.
Sam's mother, Ann Baker, told Dinogo that the family has always been behind Sam in his climbing adventures.
"He looks incredibly happy up there, and his spirits are high," she shared.

After resting in a double sleeping bag, Joe and Sam are set to embark on an eight-mile hike on Saturday, moving away from the face of El Capitan, as mentioned in the Facebook post.
"We’ll be basking in the afterglow for days," Joe remarked.
El Capitan rises more than 3,000 feet above the valley floor, as detailed on the Yosemite National Park website.

Throughout the four-day climb, Joe anticipated his son might cry due to the difficulty and emotional toll. But Sam proved to be incredibly strong, pushing through every challenge.
Sam’s courage comes as no surprise. The young climber has spent over 18 months preparing for this monumental challenge, his father revealed. Their previous climb of Moonlight Buttress in Utah’s Zion National Park gave Joe confidence that Sam was ready for El Capitan.
"He did an amazing job and truly demonstrated his ability to manage the exposure," Joe remarked.
