AutoCamp Is Growing with a Fresh Lineup of Upcycled Motels and Lodges for Adventurers

Attention all nature lovers who enjoy indoor comforts: AutoCamp is expanding beyond its Airstream glamping resorts to introduce a new lodging brand that will transform existing motels and lodges into budget-friendly basecamps across the U.S. Field Station will debut its first site in early 2023 in Moab, Utah, followed by two locations in California—one in Joshua Tree and another in Lake Tahoe—by 2024.

Field Station will feature traditional king and double queen hotel rooms, as well as camper van parking spots with access to shared bathrooms and showers, plus Wi-Fi for those embracing the van life. Keeping affordability in mind, nightly rates will start at $159 for rooms and $49 for Van Life spots during off-peak seasons.

Rooms will showcase a sleek Scandinavian design paired with stunning photography by adventure photographer Cliford Mervil. Tailored for outdoor lovers, these rooms will include bike racks and plenty of storage space for gear. Instead of a cot for extra guests, select rooms will be equipped with portaledges—hanging beds typically used by rock climbers on cliffs—installed on the walls.

Not planning to haul your mountain bike or gear on the plane? Field Station hotels will offer a retail shop along with on-site rentals from top brands like Outdoor Research and Black Diamond. On-site guides will also be available for personalized experiences during your stay. If you prefer to explore on your own, the hotel is teaming up with AllTrails to provide trail suggestions in the area.

Amenities will include a swimming pool, fire pits, an espresso bar, and a communal area called Gear + Beer where guests can return rented equipment and enjoy food and drinks after a day of exploring. To foster community, there will be weekly activities like outdoor movie nights and classes on the local Indigenous history and survival skills, open to both guests and locals.

In 2023, AutoCamp Hospitality Group will unveil four new glamping sites under its original brand near Zion National Park, Texas Hill Country, Asheville, and Sequoia National Park. The brand already operates five existing luxury AutoCamp sites in Joshua Tree, New York’s Catskill Mountains, Yosemite National Park, Russian River in Sonoma County, and Cape Cod.
