Cabo's Latest Luxury Resort Boasts a Swimmable Beach and Superb Dining: Four Seasons Cabo San Lucas
The Los Cabos area, located at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, has seen a surge in luxury resorts, with newcomers like Zadun, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in 2019 and the Grand Velas Los Cabos in 2023.
Stay updated on the latest hotel deals and expert insights with our daily newsletter.
In fact, the stretch of coastline between San Jose del Cabo, known for its art galleries, and the lively, party-centric Cabo San Lucas, seemed to have reached its limit, with barely any untouched stretches of beach left for new resorts.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoFlying under the radar, the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Cabo San Lucas at Cabo del Sol quietly opened in May 2024. Tucked away in a private cove, it features one of Cabo's most coveted assets: a swimmable beach. Add to that luxurious villas, restaurants led by celebrity chefs, and a world-class spa, and you’ve got an extraordinary getaway.
Here’s what it’s like to stay at the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Cabo San Lucas at Cabo del Sol, and how you can make the most of your stay.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoFour Seasons Cabo San Lucas Location
The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Cabo del Sol is nestled within the exclusive Cabo del Sol development, which features two world-class golf courses and residential communities, positioned between the towns of San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.

San Jose del Cabo is about a 20-minute ride for around $20, while Cabo San Lucas is also 20 minutes and $20 in the opposite direction.

The Atmosphere
The entrance to the Four Seasons Cabo San Lucas Resort and Residences at Cabo del Sol is lined with swaying palms, vibrant green lawns, and spiny agaves, setting the tone for your arrival at this exclusive sanctuary in the heart of what locals refer to as Cabo's Golden Corridor.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoAs soon as you arrive at La Casona, the main building, bellmen will swiftly take care of your luggage, while a concierge offers you a birdcage from which you can choose a scroll with your personal fortune, creating a memorable arrival experience that sets the tone for your stay.
After that, take a leisurely walk through the resort’s whitewashed adobe buildings, which cascade gently down toward the Sea of Cortez. The design evokes a modern hacienda, inspired by Mexico’s traditional Pueblos Magicos, featuring tropical flower-lined pathways and strategically placed lanterns that cast an enchanting glow in the evenings.
The atmosphere here is one of calm and ease, yet everything is thoughtfully arranged and ready to embrace you. Relax into the experience and let your journey begin.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoThe Accommodation
Tucked down a winding path from the reception area and overlooking the family-friendly Coraluz pool, my ocean-view casita with a king-size bed and plunge pool spanned a generous 1,765 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor living space.
The private patio featured a fan-cooled outdoor living area and dining set, along with a plunge pool flanked by two lounge chairs, creating an intimate, cabana-like retreat.
Opening the floor-to-ceiling glass doors, the interior revealed a spacious living area, featuring a comfortable lounge with a sofa and coffee table. On the table, I discovered a thoughtful welcome gift: chocolates shaped like Cabo's iconic Los Arcos rock formation.
Across from that, a long credenza housed a wall-mounted TV, while a breakfast table also served as a work desk. Stone floors, sand-toned walls, and blue upholstery brought the essence of Cabo's desert and ocean landscape into the room.
The remainder of the room featured a king-size bed, adorned with Four Seasons' signature embroidered linens. On each side of the bed, nightstands were equipped with reading lamps, as well as control panels for lighting, power outlets, USB-A and C ports, and wireless charging pads.
At the back of the bedroom, the entry foyer also served as a minibar, stocked with a selection of premium spirits and wines. Additionally, a Nespresso coffee maker was provided, complete with pods featuring ground beans from various Mexican regions like Veracruz and Chiapas.
Beyond that was the closet area, offering ample wardrobe space for two, along with a naturally lit vanity space that led into the bathroom.
The bathroom was almost spacious enough to be its own suite, featuring a long vanity with two sinks, stocked with Diptyque soaps and skincare essentials. It also included a freestanding deep soaking tub, separate toilet and shower stalls, each adorned with decorative tile accents.
The shower featured a glass door leading to an outdoor shower area, which could be accessed directly from the room’s main door and patio—perfect for stepping right from the private pool into the refreshing open-air shower.
Spacious yet inviting, the casita offered an effortlessly comfortable flow of space, feeling like a secluded retreat within the grander resort. It was the perfect spot to relax and unwind—though you'd miss out if you didn't explore the other amenities.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoDining and drinks at the Four Seasons Cabo San Lucas
During my stay, four of the hotel’s six planned dining and bar options were open, two of which were helmed by renowned chef Richard Sandoval.
For breakfast, guests can conveniently order from the in-room tablet or phone, enjoying favorites like a filling breakfast burrito ($24) served outdoors.
For a change of scenery, make your way to Palmerio, the restaurant near the lobby, where you can enjoy breakfast staples like chilaquiles topped with avocado, sour cream, red onions, Cotija cheese, and eggs ($32), paired with freshly baked pastries and seasonal fruit.
Palmerio, offering breathtaking coastal views and a mix of charming indoor and outdoor dining areas (the outdoor space featuring fire-lit seating surrounded by lush gardens), also serves Mediterranean-inspired dishes in the evening.
Start with a tempting plate of Chingon oysters accompanied by raspberry mignonette and mezcal cocktail sauce ($39), followed by rich wagyu steak tartare on brioche toast with citrus brown butter ($44), and saffron arancini with prosciutto and piperade ($31).
Next, enjoy wild mussel linguine with San Marzano tomatoes ($39) and the fresh catch of the day with olive-caper sauce vierge ($45), paired beautifully with emerging Mexican wines. Be sure to save room for a decadent tiramisu ($25) or a light strawberry mille-feuille ($24).
For laid-back lunches or intimate candlelit dinners, Coraluz by chef Miguel Baltazar offers a chic seaside experience. Overlooking the beach, the restaurant's ambiance is enhanced by the soothing sounds of crashing waves, with its stylish atmosphere setting the perfect tone.
For a light midday meal, indulge in refreshing options like Acapulco-style poached shrimp ceviche, complemented by a tangy passion fruit cocktail sauce ($25), or Baja tuna tostadas. These feature a delicate blend of cucumber, spicy serrano peppers, avocado crema, and chipotle emulsion atop crispy blue corn tortillas ($25).
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoFor dinner, begin with a zesty catch-of-the-day ceviche bathed in spicy-sour leche de tigre, paired with creamy avocado and crunchy tortilla chips ($23). Follow this with a flame-grilled fillet of the day's fresh catch, such as snapper or totoaba, served over smooth mashed plantains with beans and xnipec onion in an annatto adobo sauce ($45), all complemented by a refreshing glass of Mexican wine, like the crisp Dos Buhos sauvignon blanc from Guanajuato ($29).
While the Casona Bar in the lobby area offers a cocktail menu focused on tequila and mezcal, for a change of scenery as night falls, make your way to Sora Rooftop Bar.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoLocated just below Palmerio, Sora boasts expansive views of the coastline, with a color palette of soft pastels and furniture crafted from wood and woven materials, evoking the charm of Acapulco’s midcentury style.
Named a Mexican izakaya, Sora features a variety of savory small plates, such as fresh kampachi tiraditos paired with a tropical aguachile sauce and mango ($29), as well as lobster tacos with refried beans, avocado, and chile cream sauce ($31). Enjoy these alongside bold signature cocktails like the Cabo Old-Fashioned, which combines Bulleit bourbon, aged maple syrup, and amarena cherries smoked in a glass luminario ($23).
Although not yet open during my visit, renowned chef Richard Sandoval is set to introduce a new dining concept, Cayao. This restaurant will highlight Nikkei cuisine from Peru, blending Japanese influences with traditional Peruvian dishes like ceviche, tiraditos, and causas. Located next to Coraluz, Cayao will feature a more formal indoor dining area alongside a spacious oceanfront terrace.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoAmenities at the Four Seasons Cabo San Lucas
Much like other high-end resorts in Los Cabos, the Four Seasons Cabo San Lucas is meticulously crafted to serve as a self-contained retreat, making it easy for guests to enjoy everything they need without ever having to leave, even during an extended stay.
The pools
The resort boasts three distinct pools, each catering to different guest preferences. There's a peaceful lap pool located near the fitness center, perfect for a solitary swim or light exercise. While you may spot a few fitness enthusiasts here, you'll likely have the serene space and its stunning ocean views all to yourself for most of the day.
The expansive Coraluz pool, ideal for families, is the largest on the property. Situated just a short stroll down a hill from the main lobby, past a cluster of guest villas, the pool is surrounded by ample loungers shaded by umbrellas. Attendants are on hand to arrange your seating with towels and cushions, and will regularly adjust your umbrella as the sun shifts, while offering refreshing treats such as fresh fruit, smoothies, and popsicles during the hottest parts of the day.
To one side of the pool, there's a shallow area with gentle fountains, making it an ideal spot for toddlers and young children to splash and play safely.
Private cabanas are available for rent, featuring their own outdoor patios and cozy interior spaces furnished with sofas, chairs, ceiling fans for cooling, flat-screen TVs, and well-stocked refrigerated minibars.
For a more serene experience, the Brisas pool—reserved for adults—features an infinity edge that overlooks the ocean. It offers in-water loungers, traditional pool chairs, and a range of cabanas available for daily rental.
There's also a compact outdoor bar available, though the current menu is being served from Coraluz.
The beach
The hotel is situated along a cozy stretch of sandy beach, dotted with rocky outcrops and furnished with loungers and daybeds scattered across the shore.
This is one of the rare beaches in the area where swimming is possible (though only recommended for experienced swimmers due to the rocks, reefs, and strong currents). The resort’s water activity team is available to guide guests on snorkeling adventures, stand-up paddleboarding, and surf lessons.
The fitness center
Located just off the reception area at the resort’s upper edge, the fitness center was created in collaboration with renowned trainer Harley Pasternak. It features a spacious cardio and weight training area with a variety of Life Fitness and Hoist equipment, along with a separate, intimate space equipped with Hoist spinning bikes.
The fitness center is equipped with fresh towels, bottles of water, including a refreshing chilled chlorophyll-infused option, and homemade cacao protein snacks for guests to enjoy during their workout.
Tierra Mar Spa
Located next to the fitness center, the Tierra Mar Spa is a serene and stunning retreat, complete with various fountains and tranquil water features that enhance the peaceful atmosphere.
Upon arrival at reception, guests can wander through lush gardens to reach the bright and airy locker rooms, where they’ll find both indoor changing and shower facilities, as well as expansive outdoor spaces featuring vitality pools, steam rooms, saunas, and relaxation areas.
When it's time to indulge, choose from treatments like the Azul Profundo deep tissue massage using botanical-infused balms ($275 to $365; 60 to 90 minutes) or a rejuvenating 111Skin facial. Afterward, retreat to the central garden, where a tranquil pond is surrounded by plush daybeds, or if the weather’s too warm, enjoy the comfort of the indoor air-conditioned lounge.
Your therapist will meet you in the relaxation area and escort you to one of the 10 treatment rooms, including two spacious couples suites, where your journey begins.
360 Baja Adventure Centre
Adjacent to the spa and fitness center, the resort's activity hub also serves as a laid-back spot for teens, featuring a foosball table, alongside a boutique offering swimwear and other essentials perfect for the warm climate.
The team can organize a variety of excursions, from snorkeling and fishing trips to thrilling dune buggy rides across the desert and more.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoPapalote Kids for All Seasons
Located next to La Casona, Four Seasons' beloved Kids for All Seasons club offers a range of activities designed for younger guests. Children can enjoy arts and crafts, playgroups, and even supervised outings around the resort, including visits to the Coraluz pool.
El Taller Artisan Studio and Mercado
Situated in the heart of the driveway's central courtyard, this charming gallery-studio invites guests to explore local art and crafts. Visitors can sign up for art classes or simply enjoy a selection of handmade goods, including Oaxacan sculptures and Huichol figurines, sourced from across Mexico.
The Mercado will offer a convenient spot for grabbing snacks and essentials, although it wasn't open at the time of the visit.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoGolf
Guests at Four Seasons Cabo San Lucas can tee off at the renowned Cabo Del Sol Course, a masterpiece originally designed by Tom Weiskopf and later updated by Fry/Straka. This par-72 course stretches over 7,000 meters and features breathtaking desert and ocean views around every bend, making it both a challenge and a visual delight.
Out and about
While many guests simply relax by the nearest pool, the resort offers more than enough to keep you entertained. However, if you're keen to explore, there are plenty of nearby attractions waiting for you.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoTo the east, the charming town of San Jose del Cabo boasts a historic center brimming with art galleries, craft shops, and local restaurants. Highlights include the beloved taqueria La Lupita and the contemporary eatery Sage.
A 20-minute drive west of the resort, Cabo San Lucas is a lively tourist hub offering an array of budget-friendly dining, energetic nightclubs, and a bustling marina where you can enjoy seasonal whale watching, snorkeling adventures, and even set sail on a festive booze cruise.
Accessibility
The resort features three wheelchair-accessible rooms in the Ocean-View La Casona category. These are situated in the main building and are accessible via the reception's stair-free entry and elevator. Each room is equipped with essential accessibility features such as wide doorways, wheelchair-height counters, grab bars in the bathrooms, and roll-in showers. For further customization, it’s recommended to contact the hotel directly to confirm the room’s suitability for specific needs.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoWhile the resort is equipped with elevators providing access to various public areas, the property has numerous staircases and sloping pathways, which can make some spots harder to reach for wheelchair users. The pools can be accessed via stair-free routes, although they are not fully step-free or equipped with roll-in entries. The spa area features stone and dirt paths from reception to the locker rooms, but there is an alternative wheelchair-accessible entrance directly leading to the treatment rooms.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoChecking out
If you thought Cabo had enough luxury resorts, think again. While no single hotel can cater to every need, the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Cabo del Sol at Cabo San Lucas seems to have everything Baja vacationers crave — expansive rooms, vast pools (both for families and adults), exceptional restaurants, a rare swimmable beach, and a world-class spa.
ERIC ROSEN/DinogoWhat sets this resort apart from other luxury options in Cabo is its exceptional service. Every staff member greets you by name, remembers your drink or breakfast preferences, and checks in regularly to ensure you’re having a great time. If you’re not, they’ll immediately work to make things right. After experiencing this level of care, you’ll find yourself hoping that the fortune you got at check-in foretells many more visits.
