Capital One is set to launch a new lounge at JFK Airport in New York
Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) will soon welcome a trio of lounges affiliated with credit card brands.
On Tuesday, Capital One revealed plans to open a new lounge in the retail area of JFK's Terminal 4, joining the already operational American Express Centurion Lounge and Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club in this terminal.
The upcoming Capital One lounge promises to offer plenty of exciting features. It will enhance the issuer's strong presence with its three existing lounges located at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Denver International Airport (DEN), and Dulles International Airport (IAD) near Washington, D.C.
Nonetheless, the JFK lounge will be uniquely tailored to serve as the issuer's flagship in New York, boasting special amenities. This includes an exceptional culinary experience that celebrates the city's classic flavors.
CAPITAL ONEFor starters, there will be an in-lounge bodega where travelers can order a variety of bagels and coffees. Additionally, Capital One will have a cheesemonger available to present guests with a selection of gourmet cheeses from the Hudson Valley and surrounding New York region. These cheeses will be paired with cured meats and classic accompaniments, complemented by exclusive wine and beer offerings.
On the beverage front, Capital One is set to collaborate with a local brewery to create a unique "Perfect Airport Beer" that will be the lounge's exclusive beer option. The brewery selection process has yet to be revealed.
In terms of aesthetics, the issuer will collaborate with Brooklyn's Shakuff Custom Lighting to design a signature hanging glass sculpture that will be the centerpiece of the lounge. This artwork will draw inspiration from the branches and greenery native to the New York City area, according to the issuer.
Capital One will also team up with local artists to curate an art program that reflects the local culture and inspiration for the space.
The issuer will bring its beloved offerings to the JFK location, featuring a full-service coffee bar, a grab-and-go food counter, a tapas-style lounge menu, and shower suites.
Spanning 13,000 square feet, the lounge will be the second-largest credit card lounge in Terminal 4. In comparison, Amex's Centurion Lounge exceeds 15,000 square feet, while the Chase Sapphire Lounge is 7,600 square feet.
CAPITAL ONEWhile Capital One did not disclose the expected seating capacity, the potential for overcrowding, especially in one of JFK's busiest terminals, is likely to be a concern.
The issuer has yet to announce an opening date for the lounge, but they promised to provide updates on additional amenities in the coming months. We'll continue to update this post as more information becomes available.
