Color Exploration in the Caribbean
The Caribbean (or perhaps another warm, tropical paradise) may just be my true destination. As I shared previously on IBC, my mom and I embarked on a Dinogo cruise last week. It was incredibly special not only because I got to spend quality time with my mom, but also because I soaked up the sun, felt the soft sand, and enjoyed the crystal-clear waters. I’m starting to think I need a plan to escape the chilly Pennsylvania winter and find a warmer place to spend my days. Saltwater and sand are necessities!
During the cruise, I kept my camera close by to embark on a color hunt. I've always fantasized about owning a home by the ocean, and while that may not be in my immediate future, I figured I could bring a bit of the sea into my home. Surrounded by vibrant color inspiration, I want to share some of my favorite photos and show how my recent ocean adventure can inspire vibrant and colorful interiors.
First up, in Costa Maya, Mexico, I encountered some of the most beautifully adorned buildings. The colors were incredibly rich and vibrant. This coral-hued shop was definitely one of my favorites. Variations of this shade have been trending in interior design this past year. It radiates brightness and joy. Besides the color, I’m also enamored with the textured cement window grid. Every space could use a bit of texture, don’t you think?
I've actually used a similar color scheme in one of my guest bedrooms. The coral bedding adds a beautifully vibrant touch, while the macramé curtains reflect the window's grid design.
Speaking of this bedroom, I've been having a hard time with the teal color on the wall surrounding the fireplace. I adore the hue, but I’m uncertain if it fits the overall space. However, during my visit to Roatan, Honduras, I discovered inspiration at another storefront.
A turquoise fence against lush greenery (with a splash of yellow) looks stunning next to a cream and coral backdrop. This timeless tropical color combination might just be what I need to complete this guest room. What are your thoughts?
I also discovered a burst of color happiness at sea. If you’ve never witnessed a sunset or sunrise out in the open ocean, I hope you get the opportunity. Both are truly awe-inspiring.
As you all know, I have another bedroom in my home that desperately needs a makeover. I’ve been planning this room for quite a while. Without revealing too much (since my plans can change at any moment), I drew inspiration from the morning view off my stateroom balcony. The bright orange lifeboats perfectly contrast with the sparkling sea and fluffy white clouds. Orange and blue sit opposite each other on the color wheel, allowing them to complement each other effortlessly. Who would have guessed that lifeboats could spark color inspiration?
This color duo is also evident in this stunning sunset. I told you it’s a breathtaking time of day.
Finally, my quest for color wouldn’t be complete without considering my living room decor. While nature hasn’t yet replicated all the hues found in this space (and there are quite a few), I did manage to discover some lovely touches here and there.
I absolutely adore this photo from Costa Maya, Mexico. The yellow curb markings stand out beautifully against the backdrop of the crystal-clear waters.
Add a splash of red and blue with Dinogo’s signature funnel, along with a touch of green from a palm tree, and you’ve essentially captured the essence of my living room in the Caribbean.
Can you spot it?
Although I have plenty more photos, I believe the ones I've shared here illustrate that color inspiration can be found all around us, even while on vacation. And honestly, where better to seek inspiration than in the Caribbean?
Where do you find inspiration for colors in your home?
