Consider Staying at Botánika Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica

.
Our Insights
The Botánika Osa Peninsula is a nature-rich addition to Hilton’s Curio Collection, situated in one of the most biodiverse regions of Costa Rica: the Osa Peninsula. This resort harmonizes with its rainforest setting through lush landscaping featuring native plants and a design that offers ample outdoor spaces for guests to connect with nature—it's common to see macaws and toucans right from your room. True to its mission, the hotel houses the Costa Rican environmental nonprofit BioSur, dedicated to preserving this ecologically vital area.
Who is it suited for?
The resort serves as a cozy, family-friendly hub for nature enthusiasts of all ages, featuring a spacious, kid-friendly pool area, multi-bedroom suites equipped with kitchens, and activities such as horseback riding, hiking, and nature excursions. It particularly caters to fishing enthusiasts through its collaboration with the established tour operator, Crocodile Bay Fishing and Expeditions. Unlike more rustic options in the region, it’s perfect for those seeking adventure alongside modern comforts like air conditioning.

Location Highlights
The Osa Peninsula, nestled on Costa Rica's southern Pacific Coast, stands out for its remarkable biodiversity, hosting around 250,000 unique species of plants and wildlife, many of which are exclusive to this area. Off the coast lies the Golfo Dulce, home to the largest of the Earth's three tropical fjords, providing a rich habitat for whales, sharks, sea turtles, and various large tropical fish. On land, you can expect to encounter sloths, tapirs, four species of monkeys (including spider, howler, capuchin, and squirrel), dart frogs, and a diverse selection of insects and butterflies.
Located less than a quarter mile from the Pacific Coast, the hotel is just a two-minute drive from Puerto Jiménez (PJM) airport, easily reachable with a 40-minute flight from San Jose (SJO). A major draw of the peninsula is Corcovado National Park, Costa Rica's largest national park, situated about a 1.5-hour drive or boat ride away — a must-see during your visit.
Accommodations
With a selection of 114 rooms, guests can opt for either a studio or a suite that ranges from one to three bedrooms, with the largest suite accommodating up to 10 guests. Each suite features a balcony or patio, a living room, and a fully equipped kitchen. All rooms are air-conditioned, and energy is sourced from solar panels. Unlike many other hotels in the area, these accommodations do not offer an open-air design, which could be a benefit or drawback based on your preferences. Botánika provides standard Hilton amenities, including dependable Wi-Fi and cozy beds, alongside unique design elements that reflect the local landscape, giving a true Costa Rican ambiance.
The Osa Peninsula is remarkably biodiverse, even by Costa Rican standards, and is home to numerous unique species.
Culinary Offerings
Botánika features two dining options: Tierra a la Mesa and Driza. Tierra a la Mesa serves a breakfast buffet daily, showcasing a blend of Western and Costa Rican cuisines, including gallo pinto (rice and beans). In the evening, it transforms into a vibrant gathering place for both guests and locals from the nearby town of Puerto Jiménez. If you're fortunate enough to catch a fish while out fishing, the kitchen will clean and prepare your catch. If not, popular menu items include octopus and T-bone steak.
The resort's relaxed poolside bar and restaurant, Driza, welcomes guests for lunch and dinner. It’s the perfect spot to pull up a seat at the bar, order a cocktail such as the bell-pepper flavored Refreshing Pepper, and exchange fishing stories with fellow visitors. If you prefer beer, don’t miss their selection of local craft brews.
Facilities and Amenities
The spacious, greenery-filled pool area next to Driza is one of the hotel’s highlights, featuring three cabanas (available on a first-come, first-served basis) and two hot tubs. Other amenities include a fitness center, a spa, and a desk for arranging excursions.
Service and Hospitality
A number of staff members have experience at both Botánika and its predecessor, Crocodile Bay Resort. They offer extensive local knowledge, exceptional hospitality, and a friendly community atmosphere that warmly welcomes guests.
Accessibility Features
Each building is equipped with elevators, and there are two ADA-compliant rooms available. An on-site “tuk-tuk” service is also provided to transport guests and their luggage from the reception area to their accommodations.
Conservation Efforts
The resort utilizes solar panels for power and features LEED-certified lighting. While some guests may be disappointed by the absence of ocean views, this strategic location was chosen to protect the adjacent mangroves and coastal ecosystems during development. Moreover, its collaboration with BioSur aims to educate local children on environmental stewardship and engage them in conservation initiatives. Founder Jim Cordoba, a trained entomologist, conducts vital research and documentation on Costa Rica’s insects.
