Copenhagen is offering eco-friendly travelers exciting rewards like free kayak tours, ice cream, and more.

Visitors to Copenhagen can soon unlock perks at some of the city's top attractions by cycling, showing a train ticket, or engaging in other sustainable actions.
This innovative exchange program, known as CopenPay, runs from July 15 to August 11. It allows travelers to trade eco-friendly actions for free rewards at numerous attractions, including complimentary ice cream at the National Museum of Denmark and free coffee at the Museum of Copenhagen.
"Our mission is to make travel more sustainable, and this will only be possible if we close the gap between travelers' intent to act sustainably and their actual behavior," said Mikkel Aarø-Hansen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen. "We aim to encourage conscious, eco-friendly choices that lead to even better experiences for visitors."

This pilot program highlights Copenhagen's commitment to sustainability, with Denmark being named TPG's most sustainable destination in 2022. Travelers can now use their eco-friendly actions as a form of currency.
Copenhagen is now more accessible than ever, thanks to two new nonstop flights launched last month. American Airlines offers direct service from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), while Scandinavian Airlines connects from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).
Here’s everything travelers need to know to participate in the CopenPay program.
What sustainable actions can be used as currency?
Both tourists and locals can earn rewards by taking public transport, walking, or cycling to attractions. Other qualifying actions include volunteering at urban gardens, picking up litter, or helping clean beaches. Each attraction has its own set of requirements.
How can you prove you've taken a green action?

Travelers can provide proof of their eco-friendly actions by showing a train ticket, sharing photos of themselves biking, or participating in a cleanup. However, Wonderful Copenhagen emphasizes that "CopenPay is primarily based on trust."
What rewards can travelers receive?
Travelers can earn a range of free perks, varying by attraction. A complete list is available online, but some of the highlights include:
- Enjoy a free vegetarian lunch by volunteering at the Oens Have urban garden.
- Receive a complimentary glass of rosé and a free petanque ball rental when arriving on foot or by bike at Skurets Vinsalg wine store, located in the historic Langelinieskuret customs house.
- Get a free kayak rental by collecting waste on the water with GreenKayak.
