Understanding the Voting Process
Each year, for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L invites readers to provide feedback on travel experiences worldwide — to voice their thoughts on the finest hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise lines, spas, airlines, and more. In 2024, over 186,000 T+L readers participated in the survey, casting a total of more than 700,000 votes for over 8,700 properties (including hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).
Hotels were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, inns, or safari lodges based on their location and features, and they were specifically evaluated on the criteria listed below:
- Rooms/amenities
- Location
- Service quality
- Cuisine
- Overall value
For each aspect, respondents had the option to rate it as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The overall scores are calculated as averages of these ratings.
What Readers Adored
The finest hotels in Dublin exude a profound sense of place and history. Consider The Shelbourne, Autograph Collection, which proudly holds the No. 3 position in this year’s survey, celebrating its 200th anniversary. “You simply can’t visit Dublin and stay anywhere else,” one reader exclaimed about this iconic hotel, once frequented by the likes of Peter O’Toole, Jackie Kennedy, and Princess Grace of Monaco. This year’s runner-up, The Westbury (No. 2), has established itself as a Dublin landmark in its brief 40-year existence. Readers appreciate its timeless elegance, museum-quality art (including works by Irish legends like Sir John Lavery and Louis le Brocquy), and its unbeatable location between Trinity College and St. Stephen’s Green. “Finding a better hotel in Dublin would be quite the challenge,” one respondent praised. “The staff is friendly and professional, and the location is ideal. It’s worth every cent.” Curious about which hotel took the top spot this year? Keep reading to discover it.
