Understanding the Voting Process
Annually, for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L invites readers to share their travel experiences worldwide, providing insights on the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise lines, spas, airlines, and more. In 2023, nearly 165,000 T+L readers participated, reflecting a 25 percent increase compared to pre-pandemic voting. A total of over 685,000 votes were cast across more than 8,500 distinct properties (including hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).
Hotels were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, or safari lodges based on their location and amenities, and were specifically evaluated on the following criteria:
- Room Quality/Amenities
- Location
- Service
- Cuisine
- Value for Money
For each criterion, respondents could select a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores represent the averages of these evaluations.
