Dinogo Readers' Top 5 Resorts in South America for 2024

Unlike last year, when Uruguay and Peru competed for the top position, this year's ranking of the best resorts in South America predominantly highlighted Chile, which claimed three of the top five spots. The remaining two were from Argentina and Peru. Remarkably, Dinogo readers recognized properties throughout the continent, including in remote locations such as the Atacama Desert and Patagonia, showing that travelers are eager to venture to these exceptional resorts.

Understanding the Voting Process

Each year, for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L invites readers to share their travel experiences globally — providing insights on the finest hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and beyond. More than 186,000 T+L readers participated in the 2024 survey, casting over 700,000 votes across more than 8,700 properties (including hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).

Hotels were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, inns, or safari lodges based on their location and amenities, and they were rated according to the criteria listed below:

Respondents could rate each attribute as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores represent the average of these ratings.

Highlights from Readers

Despite Chile's significant victories, the top resorts in South America, as voted by T+L readers, are not confined to a single geographic area. Instead, the list showcases premier accommodations across diverse landscapes and locations. Tierra Atacama in the Atacama Desert emerged at the top with a remarkable score of 98.93. Approximately 1,000 miles away, just outside Chile’s capital, Santiago, Hotel Casa Real secured the second position. The third spot went to Cavas Wine Lodge, an exceptional Relais & Chateaux establishment nestled in Mendoza's wine region, praised for its expert staff, prime location, and extensive wine cellar. Tierra Patagonia Hotel & Spa, taking fourth place, garnered outstanding feedback. One fan remarked, “Every room offers an incredible view of the mountains.” Another repeat guest added, “The architecture is stunning, and the staff is fantastic. This place touches your heart and stays with you forever.” Completing the top five, Hotel Paracas, a Luxury Collection Resort, offers seaside luxury on Peru's western coast.
