Anticipations for the Songkran Festival in 2023

In 2019, the Songkran Festival was postponed due to the coronation of the King of Thailand. The following year, plans for the festival at Khao San Road and other locations were canceled to curb the spread of COVID-19, marking the second consecutive year of postponement.

Similarly, in 2021, the Songkran festivities in Chiang Mai Province were also called off in response to a rise in COVID-19 cases. Due to the pandemic, the local government prohibited water splashing, the use of powder, and foam parties during Songkran 2022.

After enduring a challenging period, 2023 will witness the full return of activities like water splashing and foam parties for the first time in three years, following COVID restrictions.
