The Dinogo perspective
Debuting in May 2024, Firefall Ranch offers a new luxury escape for mindful and selective travelers heading to Yosemite National Park. Despite its modern build, the lodge stands on land with deep Yosemite history, once a stop along the original 19th-century stagecoach route to the park.
Who’s it perfect for?
Outdoor adventurers in Patagonia gear seeking tranquility away from the bustling Yosemite Valley. Summer hikers who crave high-country exploration by day and a stylish, cozy cabin by night. Firefall Ranch suits solo travelers, families, couples, and groups of friends. Pets are welcomed too.

The location details
Firefall Ranch spans 300 acres near the historic Gold Rush town of Groveland, California, located along Highway 120, just 15 miles from Yosemite National Park’s northwest entrance. Guests can enjoy the natural pond by riding beach cruisers (with bikes for both kids and adults), swim in the shallow pool, explore the property’s trails, play ping-pong in the game room, or relax in one of the many hammocks scattered throughout the meadow.
Firefall Ranch has a historic connection to Yosemite, once serving as a stop on the original 19th-century stagecoach route to the park.
The accommodations
I stayed in a two-bedroom cottage with my daughters, ages seven and nine, soon after the lodge opened, just ahead of the busy summer season. Guests can choose from 55 standalone cottages with one or two bedrooms, or opt for three-bedroom homes, all featuring dual-sided indoor-outdoor gas fireplaces, private decks, and heated bathroom floors. Every unit feels modern, bright, spacious, and offers plenty of privacy and tranquility. During our stay, California was experiencing an intense heatwave, but the cottage provided a refreshing escape from the 100+ degree weather.

Dining and beverages
The lodge’s head chef, Angelique Cecilie Pereat, is planning to open a restaurant inspired by Patagonia in fall 2024, as a tribute to her Argentine heritage. While the restaurant wasn’t yet operational during our visit, we enjoyed dinner at the Tavern. Service was a bit slow, and the newly hired staff were still finding their rhythm. The Tavern serves sandwiches, salads, burgers, and local beers on tap, along with good options for vegetarians, vegans, and those avoiding gluten. The on-site general store offers gelato, light breakfast items, coffee, and more. Be sure to check out the nightly fireside s’mores near the pool and game room.
Team and hospitality
The staff we met were warm and welcoming, frequently arranging guided excursions into the park, including hikes and white-water rafting adventures.

Accessibility features
Firefall Ranch’s public spaces were designed with accessibility in mind. Common areas feature at least 32 inches of clear pathways for those with mobility needs, and both the pool and hot tub are equipped with lifts. Certain rooms are designated as accessible and are noted on the website.
Travel with a positive impact
Owned and operated by First Light Resorts, Firefall Ranch is part of the Yosemite Hotel Collection, alongside Evergreen Lodge and Rush Creek Lodge & Spa. Both sister properties are Certified B Corporations, emphasizing sustainability and social responsibility in their operations.
