Hilton is set to expand its lifestyle hotel offerings in Iceland
Hilton's worldwide expansion of its lifestyle hotel collection now includes Iceland.
The hotel giant plans to establish two lifestyle hotels in Iceland: one in Reykjavik and another in the northern region of the country.
More information has emerged regarding the property slated for the northern Icelandic countryside, where Hilton aims to launch the Akureyri "Skald" Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, in Akureyri during the summer of 2025. This 70-room hotel will feature a lobby bar, an all-day dining restaurant, and an "innovative social club concept," as per the brand's announcement. Akureyri attracts many tourists due to its proximity to the Diamond and Arctic circles, making it a prime location for those seeking to witness the northern lights.
Hilton's second lifestyle hotel in Iceland is expected to open in spring 2026 in Reykjavik, though details regarding the brand of this "premium lifestyle accommodation" remain undisclosed. This planned 170-room property will focus on sustainability and incorporate "natural materials and thoughtful design."
"Iceland is an immensely popular travel hotspot, and we are thrilled to expand our property portfolio in Reykjavik while also introducing the first internationally branded hotel to the Icelandic countryside in Akureyri," stated Nick Smart, Hilton's vice president of development for the U.K., Ireland, and Nordics. "Hilton's lifestyle brands have continually created growth opportunities in European markets, and alongside partners like Bohemian Hotels ehf., we are eager to enhance our presence in Iceland."
This expansion strengthens Hilton's existing four-hotel portfolio in Iceland, which includes two Curio Collection properties, a Canopy by Hilton, and a flagship Hilton hotel. The growth also supports Hilton's ambition to double its lifestyle hotel count globally over the next four years.
In recent months, the company has introduced brands like Graduate and NoMad, with plans for a lifestyle hotel surge that includes 100 hotel openings this year alone.
"Hilton's lifestyle brands are aspirational, design-focused, and experiential, with authentic perspectives reflected in every aspect of the guest experience," remarked Kevin Osterhaus, Hilton's president of global lifestyle brands, in a statement earlier this month. "I am excited to build on the category's success and continue Hilton's commitment to redefining what it means to be a lifestyle brand."
