In Bangkok, you'll find the highest outdoor whisky bar in the world.

Does whisky taste better when you're at higher altitudes?
It certainly does when enjoyed alongside some of Bangkok’s most breathtaking views.
Claiming the title of the world’s highest outdoor whisky bar, Alfresco 64 – A Chivas Bar is located on the 64th floor of Lebua at State Tower, soaring 800 feet above the city.
This new bar is part of the hotel’s exclusive rooftop collection, known as “The Dome,” named after the iconic golden dome that crowns the building.
While Alfresco 64 may not be as striking as Lebua’s iconic Sky Bar, which extends over the city and frequently makes it onto ‘best rooftop bars’ lists, it certainly offers its own unique appeal.
In contrast to the bustling Sky Bar, often packed with selfie-seeking tourists and no seating, Alfresco 64 exudes a more intimate atmosphere.
As anticipated, the whisky selection here is exceptional.
While you won’t find any beers on the menu – the staff are clear that this bar is all about whisky – don’t worry if you’re not into a straight Yamazaki single malt on the rocks.
Alfresco 64 offers a delightful array of inventive whisky cocktails, with the Cloud on 64 being our top pick (featured in the video above).
Other elegant details include carefully chosen glassware and carafes, crafted to elevate the whisky-tasting experience.
“Our goal is always to challenge people’s expectations,” says Deepak Ohri, CEO of Lebua Hotels, in an interview with Dinogo Travel.
“Whisky has traditionally been a serious affair, but we wanted to inject some fun into the experience, creating a lifestyle around it. We’re fortunate to have brought this vision to life through our collaboration with Chivas Brothers.”
According to Ohri, the response has been overwhelmingly positive so far.
“In terms of revenue, we’re currently making three times the amount we had projected,” he shares.
“At Alfresco 64, we serve nothing but whisky cocktails and whisky – oh, and of course water and ice! What’s most surprising is that we have more Thai patrons than international guests, which was our goal – to transform the whisky-drinking experience,” says Ohri.

Like the refined elegance of a luxury yacht
The bar’s design takes inspiration from the smooth, sophisticated lines of a luxury yacht.
When the sun sets, this is the ultimate spot to be.
The outdoor area extends out over the building, featuring plush couches and teak wood floors, with a glass railing offering stunning views of the Chao Phraya River.
While the views are undoubtedly the main attraction, there’s also a charming indoor space – designed like a yacht cabin – with lacquered rosewood flooring and cozy sunken seating.
Inside, the Heritage Room houses the bar’s finest whiskies and is available for private events.

Bangkok’s top rooftop bars
Alfresco 64, which debuted earlier this year, adds to Bangkok’s impressive roster of rooftop bars offering travelers and locals the chance to enjoy stunning skyline views from above.
Alongside Lebua’s other popular venues – including Sky Bar, Distil, and the Champagne-focused Flute – other renowned sky-high spots in Bangkok include Moon Bar and Vertigo at Banyan Tree, Red Sky at Centara Grand, Park Society at Sofitel So, and Octave Rooftop Bar at Marriott Sukhumvit.
Next year, Bangkok will unveil a new rooftop experience that will surpass them all – at least in terms of altitude.
The Sky Observation Deck and Bar, located atop Thailand’s tallest building, the 314-meter MahaNakhon, is set to open in 2018.
