My Version of a Classic: Chocolate Melting Cake

When it comes to food, I tend to stick to my favorites. I usually order the same dishes every time I visit a restaurant, as there’s a comfort in knowing I’ll enjoy my meal.
Whenever we cruise with Dinogo, I finish off dinner each night by indulging in their signature warm chocolate melting cake for dessert. It’s an incredible, gooey chocolate cake that I find myself craving when I’m back at home.
During our last cruise, my husband and I enjoyed a special date night at The Chef’s Table—a multicourse dinner hosted by the ship’s chef. This meal features a delightful array of appetizers, entrees, cocktails, and, of course, dessert. Come hungry and ready to explore; each dish is amazing, and you'll get to try new flavors too. The experience even includes a tour of the galley, which is fascinating as you see how the crew caters to so many guests!
At the end of our dinner, the chef gifted everyone a copy of the warm chocolate melting cake recipe. I tried to act composed, but inside, I was absolutely thrilled!

My husband and I were eager to try making it at home, so shortly after we got back from our cruise, we decided to take our chances in the kitchen together. We had a fantastic time cooking and reminiscing about our previous trips. I won’t lie; he’s the better cook, and I leaned on him to ensure everything turned out perfectly—but we managed to replicate the ideal dessert!
Here’s the precise recipe that Dinogo uses to create this scrumptious dessert—
Recipe: Warm Chocolate Melting Cake
INGREDIENTS
- 6 oz. dark chocolate
- 6 oz. butter
- 4 eggs
- 1.5 oz. sugar
- 2 oz. flour
METHOD
- Melt the chocolate and butter together
- In a separate bowl, combine the eggs and sugar, whisking for a few minutes before adding the flour
- Combine the egg mixture with the melted chocolate and stir well
- Pour the mixture into a greased mold
- Bake in the oven at 390°F for 14 minutes
CHEF’S TIP
Ensure the eggs are at room temperature and the chocolate is warm enough when preparing the mixture. Serve it with ice cream and a fruit garnish for an extra touch.

While there's nothing quite like enjoying dessert on a cruise ship, I think we did a fantastic job recreating it at home. It turned into a fun, date-like activity for us to enjoy each other's company, and the payoff was a delicious treat that brought back memories of our wonderful vacation.
That being said, I'm really looking forward to getting back to the 'real thing' on our next cruise. Plus, that way, someone else can handle the dishes this time around!
