“November and February are typically quieter months in the Netherlands — and Amsterdam is no exception,” notes van der Werk. Food enthusiasts, art aficionados, and history lovers willing to gamble on the weather will find that attraction tickets are easily accessible during these months. Expect shorter lines and less crowded museums, allowing for a close-up view of masterpieces at the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum. It's also much simpler to get last-minute reservations at restaurants or find a spot at a trendy bar.

Amsterdam truly comes alive from June to September, with wonderful weather and extended daylight hours. This is the ideal season for enjoying outdoor pursuits. Embark on a picturesque boat tour through the canals, cycle along charming sunlit streets, or admire the vibrant flowers in the countryside. Additionally, the summer months feature a plethora of flower exhibitions, parades, music festivals, and cultural happenings.

As with most travel destinations, prices in Amsterdam are influenced by demand. Rates peak during the bustling summer months, while the quieter months of November and February can offer some savings, according to van der Werk.

The famous flowers of the Netherlands begin to emerge in early April, captivating flower enthusiasts throughout May as well. “You can visit the world's largest flower gardens, featuring tulips in every hue, or join the locals in celebrating King’s Day (an orange outfit is essential for the festivities),” van der Werk explains. “This is the most beautiful time to embark on a bike tour through the city or countryside.”

Least Favorable Time to Visit Amsterdam 

While Amsterdam doesn't have a definitive off-season, there are definitely periods when the gray skies and chilly weather alter the city's atmosphere. January and February can be particularly cold and gloomy, making it rare to see people enjoying outdoor cafes. However, the locals continue to bike around, and the overcast skies create perfect moody selfies. Additionally, fewer crowds at cultural sites and lower prices are worth considering.
