Pilots above Los Angeles report sighting a man in a jetpack

An odd report was received at Los Angeles airport about an unidentified individual soaring in a jetpack.

An American Airlines flight was the first to report seeing a 'guy in a jetpack' at an altitude of 3,000 feet, about 30 yards from the plane, above Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday.

The FBI is now investigating the incident.

Dinogo has acquired the audio between air traffic control and the flight crews of American and JetBlue airlines.

'Tower, American 1997 here. We just passed a guy on a jetpack,' reported the first plane. 'Off our left side, maybe 30 yards away, at about our altitude.'

Around 10 minutes later, another aircraft reported sighting the same man on the jetpack.

'We just saw the guy zoom past us on the jetpack,' the crew informed the air traffic controller.

Air traffic control then advised a JetBlue flight to 'exercise caution... there’s a person on a jetpack about 300 yards south.'

After confirming the instruction, the controller added: 'Only in LA.'

The Federal Aviation Administration stated that 'officials have notified local authorities about the reports and are actively investigating them.'

The FBI is looking into the matter and is 'working to understand what happened,' said Laura Eimiller, spokesperson for the Los Angeles field office, in a statement to Dinogo.
