Royal Scotsman Belmond Train Introduces New Grand Suites—And They’re Just as Luxurious as You’d Anticipate
If the idea of a luxury sleeper train journey through the stunning Scottish Highlands—featuring peaks shaped by glaciers and valleys covered in vibrant purple heather and glistening lochs—wasn't appealing enough, the Royal Scotsman, a Belmond train, has recently unveiled two new Grand Suites that elevate the experience beyond the already lavish accommodations.
Set to launch in May 2024, these new suites will provide a bedroom with a double bed, a distinct seating area complete with a dressing table, dining table, sofa, and armchair, an en suite bathroom with a shower, and large windows for enjoying the scenic views.
Created by the acclaimed French interior designer Tristan Auer, the suites are inspired by the charm of a country manor, showcasing rich dark wood paneling and furniture upholstered in tweed and tartan sourced from the Scottish textile brand Araminta Campbell.
Established in 1985, the Royal Scotsman offers excursions through the Highlands that last from two to seven nights, with journeys beginning and concluding at Edinburgh’s Waverley station. The train stops throughout the day for adventures such as wild swimming, rafting, hiking on the Isle of Skye, and clay pigeon shooting. The Royal Scotsman also features themed itineraries focused on visits to Scottish whisky distilleries and castles.

Guests in a Grand Suite will enjoy private transfers to and from the train, a dedicated butler for in-suite dining assistance, and one complimentary treatment at the Dior Spa. This newly launched service offers massages and facials performed by Dior wellness specialists.
In addition to the spa, the train features several public spaces, including two dining cars (one with tables for two and four, and another accommodating six or eight), an observation car with an outdoor veranda, and a bar boasting over 50 whisky selections.
The Grand Suites are now open for reservations, starting at $6,600 per person for a two-night stay. The Royal Scotsman also provides more affordable sleeping options, featuring twin, single, or double-bed cabins with en suite bathrooms, writing desks, and wardrobes, beginning at $5,000 per person for two nights. All excursions, meals, and beverages (including alcohol) are included. The Royal Scotsman is operated by the luxury hospitality brand Belmond, which also runs the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train.
