The 38 Must-Try Restaurants in Omaha
An enduring statistic in Nebraska claims that Omaha boasts the highest number of restaurants per capita among cities of similar size (approximately 1 million in the metro area). This tidbit circulates widely, and its accuracy has become irrelevant. It stands as a point of pride, a rallying cry for the state's largest city, where residents love dining out.
Above all, Omahans have a passion for steak, preferably medium rare, with few exceptions. The historic Johnny’s Café, a south Omaha fixture for a century, shares the spotlight with newer gems like Committee Chophouse, where traditional dishes like Delmonico and chateaubriand are gaining popularity. However, Omaha's culinary scene isn't solely focused on meat. In 2023, the city proudly celebrated its first James Beard Award finalist, David Utterback, who crafts some of the finest sushi in the Midwest at Yoshitomo and Ota, along with yakitori at Koji.
Like many cities, Omaha experienced a loss of restaurants during the pandemic, and restaurateurs continue to face numerous challenges, particularly with staffing. Prices have risen as well. Nevertheless, owners and chefs have persevered, and dining remains a vibrant aspect of the city, offering delights like blue crab maltagliati, Burmese ramen, fast-food-style seitan burgers, farm-to-cone ice cream, and, of course, plenty of beef.

Sathyan intends to introduce a tasting menu, available by reservation only.
The Bagel Bin
For over 40 years, the Bagel Bin — Omaha's leading kosher bakery — has been crafting New York-style bagels based on the Brezack family's Polish recipes. At lunchtime, the egg and tuna salad bagel melt is a favorite, along with the pizza bagel. Savory and sweet kugels are also on offer.
