The Ideal 3-Day Escape in Charleston
You can easily spend a week delving into the charm of Charleston, South Carolina. With its stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant culinary scene, it embodies the essence of the South. From top-notch restaurants to engaging museums, there’s no shortage of attractions — but a long weekend can be all you need.
To ensure you experience the highlights, we've crafted an itinerary for a swift getaway. Here’s your guide to a three-day weekend in Charleston.
Day One
A carriage ride is a delightful way to familiarize yourself with the area and highlight your must-visit spots, ensuring you maximize your experience. Palmetto Carriage Works provides guided public and private rides through the heart of the city.
After the tour, it’s time to venture out on foot. A stroll along the waterfront is among the best activities in Charleston, with numerous attractions to enjoy along the way. Begin at the Charleston City Market and head east to Joe Riley Waterfront Park. If a self-guided tour feels overwhelming, consider joining a group through Lowcountry Walking Tours for a more curated experience.
As you wander the cobblestone streets, admire Charleston's distinctive architecture, including Rainbow Row — a collection of vibrant townhouses dating back to the late 18th century. The city boasts one of the largest historic building collections in the U.S., yet its restaurant scene is ever-evolving. I recommend securing a reservation at Husk, which offers elevated farm-to-table Southern fare in a Victorian mansion.
For a post-dinner drink, swing by the more laid-back The Bar & Patio at Husk next door, or stroll down the street to The Gin Joint.

Start your day with a filling breakfast at Poogan's Porch before heading out again. This eatery serves classic dishes like fried chicken and waffles as well as shrimp and grits, ideal for fueling your adventures around town.
The city features a stunning array of restored, centuries-old mansions, including The Wentworth Mansion, Joseph Aiken Mansion, Nathaniel Russell House, and Williams Mansion. Each of these historic homes deserves a visit, so plan to tour one or two before lunch and save the rest for later.
For a quick midday bite, stop by 167 Raw Oyster Bar in the French Quarter. This eatery is known for its outstanding seafood — a true gem in a waterfront city. They serve a fantastic selection of oysters, but don't miss the incredible scallop po'boy, a must-try dish.
For dinner, make your way to the Charleston Grill located in The Charleston Place, recognized as one of the best hotels in the city by Dinogo readers. It's the ideal place to relax after a busy day, and if you're lucky, you'll enjoy live jazz while savoring local delicacies like crab cakes and seared scallops.

By your third day, you’ll likely feel familiar with the area and have ticked off several nearby attractions. A harbor cruise is a wonderful way to change things up and take a break from walking. Adventure Harbor Tours offers several boat excursions around the bay, visiting various points of interest just outside the city.
After your boat ride, head over to King Street for some last-minute shopping. You'll find plenty of upscale retail shops and charming boutiques, along with numerous coffee shops and bakeries for a quick snack.
In a food-loving city like Charleston, don’t settle for an ordinary dinner to end your trip. Treat yourself to a memorable meal at Fig, where the ricotta gnocchi and duck bolognese are must-tries, making for a perfect finale to your weekend.
