The Maldives introduces the world’s first underwater hotel residence, setting a new standard in luxury accommodations.

For once, ‘sleeping with the fishes’ takes on a whole new meaning—no mob movie scenes here, just an incredible oceanfront experience.
The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island has unveiled the world’s first-ever submerged hotel residence, redefining luxury stays.
More than just a room or suite, this two-story villa is 16 feet below the surface of the Indian Ocean. Named 'Muraka,' meaning ‘coral’ in the local Dhivehi language, it promises a truly extraordinary stay.
Beyond the standard hotel features, the Muraka offers an elevated luxury experience with a private gym, bar, infinity pool, butler’s quarters, an ocean-facing bathtub, and, most notably, an underwater bedroom with breathtaking views of the sea.
The top level, above the waterline, features a 'relaxation deck,' perfect for soaking up the sun in a tranquil setting.
The Muraka isn’t the first underwater attraction at the resort—its home also hosts Ithaa, a stunning underwater five-star dining experience.
A jetty connects the Muraka to the rest of the resort, including Ithaa, so you can easily leave your serene retreat to interact with the land-dwellers.
The Muraka’s construction was thoughtfully designed with environmental care. Built in Singapore on land, it was later transported to the Maldives on a specialized vessel.
Once positioned underwater, the residence was secured with concrete pylons, ensuring it remains stable against strong waves and high tides.
Not quite ready to sleep and dine beneath the waves? The Conrad also offers a selection of floating villas, perfect for those looking to dip their toes into the ocean experience.
