The South Korean capital is set to unveil the world’s largest Ferris wheel without spokes.

In 2027, Seoul will introduce the ‘Seoul Ring,’ a massive 180-meter (591-foot) spokeless Ferris wheel, adding a new icon to its skyline.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) revealed that the new attraction will be located in Haneul Park, situated in the city’s northeastern part.
Spokeless Ferris wheels are a recent innovation. While traditional Ferris wheels use cables in the center, advancements in technology now allow the cars to spin without them.
The wheel’s location near the World Cup stadium and close to the Han River will offer breathtaking views of the city’s landscape.
In an official statement about the Ferris wheel project, the Seoul government explained that Haneul Park (meaning ‘sky’ in Korean) was chosen for its strategic location, particularly its proximity to North Korea.
The SMG emphasized that because of the park’s closeness to the North Korean border, the Seoul Ring will serve as a symbol of hopes for Korean reunification and national unity.
The Seoul Ring is part of a broader initiative in the Sangam-dong area, a former landfill now transformed into a hub for sustainable development. The Ferris wheel will be powered by eco-friendly technologies, including solar energy.
Upon completion, the Seoul Ring will feature 36 carriages, each with a capacity for 25 people. At full capacity, the wheel could host up to 11,792 visitors per day.

The Ferris wheel is named after George Washington Gale Ferris Jr., the engineer who designed the original Ferris wheel for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, the precursor to the World’s Fair.
The largest spokeless Ferris wheel in the world today stands in Shandong, China, reaching a height of 145 meters (475 feet).
In contrast, Ain Dubai, which opened last year in the United Arab Emirates, currently holds the record as the tallest observation wheel in the world.
