The World’s Best Bar for 2019 has been announced
While New York's real estate market may be in decline, there's still one place in Greenwich Village where space is highly coveted: Dante, a historic 104-year-old bar recently crowned the best on the 2019 World’s 50 Best Bars list.
First opened as Caffe Dante in 1915, this iconic bar has remained a favorite since its 2015 relaunch by Australian owners Linden Pride and Natalie Hudson, alongside creative director Naren Young.
Thursday evening saw London's Roundhouse, a former Victorian railway depot now turned arts hub, packed with the trailblazers behind the world’s top bars. The 50 winning bars came from 26 cities in 21 different countries.
Linden Pride, the owner of Dante, shared with Dinogo Travel, 'We are truly honored to be named the World’s Best Bar at this esteemed London ceremony. We remain committed to our hospitality approach, ensuring every guest has a memorable experience.'
Dante’s menu features classic cocktails like Negronis, martinis, and a variety of spritzes, all served in a welcoming white-tiled setting. The bar also offers beloved Italian dishes with a modern twist – from burrata and ricotta to lasagna, meatballs, and more.
Dante is one of six New York bars to make the 2019 list, with The NoMad (No.4) and Attaboy (No.7) also ranking in the Top 10. Masa Urushido’s Katana Kitten, a Japanese-style bar in the West Village, was named Best New Opening.
The UK made a strong showing with 10 bars on this year's list. Iconic spots like The Connaught (No.2) and The Savoy (No.5) claimed top positions, while Three Sheets, a minimalist East London bar with a simple three-part menu, is quickly gaining acclaim after just three years of operation.
This year’s list saw a record 17 new entries, with Peru’s Carnaval taking the crown as the highest new addition. Florería Atlántico in Buenos Aires, ranked No.3, earned an enthusiastic reception with cheers of 'Ole Ole!' after rising 11 spots.
The biggest mover of all was Madrid’s Salmon Guru, which jumped an impressive 28 spots to land at No.19.
Singapore dominated Asia’s list, with six bars making the cut, including Atlas, which was crowned the Best Bar in Asia.
Hong Kong’s The Old Man, a bar inspired by the cocktails of American writer Ernest Hemingway, along with its Singaporean counterpart, both made strong appearances on the list.
