The world’s leading museum is...

With masterpieces like the Mona Lisa’s enigmatic smile, the Venus de Milo, and the Law Code of Hammurabi, it’s easy to see why the Louvre reigns as the globe’s most visited museum.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Louvre topped the latest TEA/AECOM Global Attractions Attendance Report in museum rankings. The renowned Paris museum drew 8.7 million visitors, according to the 2015 Museum Index.
In total, the top 20 museums across the globe welcomed about 106.5 million visitors last year, marking a slight decline from 107.3 million in 2014. Such shifts in attendance are often influenced by high-profile temporary exhibitions, like Tate Modern’s “Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs” in 2014.
London led with six museums in the top 20, more than any other city. Washington, D.C. followed with four, while Paris and New York shared third place with two each.
