Understanding the Voting Process

Annually, for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L invites readers to share their travel experiences globally — offering their insights on the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise lines, spas, airlines, and beyond. Over 186,000 T+L readers participated in the 2024 survey, casting more than 700,000 votes across 8,700+ properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).

Hotels were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, inns, or safari lodges based on their location and amenities, and were rated specifically on the following criteria:

• Rooms and Facilities
• Location
• Service Quality
• Culinary Experience
• Overall Value

Respondents could rate each feature as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores reflect the average of these ratings.

Highlights from Readers

This year's winners are spread across the nation's coastlines, with Riviera Maya resorts particularly favored by T+L readers. The previous year's champion, Hotel Xcaret Arte, dropped to the No. 3 position, making way for its parent company's more opulent adults-only, all-inclusive resort, La Casa de la Playa.

Los Cabos hotels also performed well, featuring 11 resorts in the vicinity of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. Montage Los Cabos (No. 17) received special commendation for its swimmable beach, which is rare among Los Cabos hotels.

A newly opened resort that's capturing the interest of many is Susurros del Corazón, Auberge Resorts Collection (ranked No. 5), which began welcoming guests in late 2022. Located in the exclusive Punta Mita area, it’s about a 45-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta. Another noteworthy resort along the Pacific Coast is One&Only Mandarina, holding the No. 22 spot. Featuring over 100 suites, a sprawling 27,000-square-foot spa, and six pools, this resort has been impressing visitors since its 2020 launch. One guest describes it as her "favorite place on earth."

A notable trend is emerging, as all-inclusive resorts remain a favorite among our readers. This year, seven all-inclusive resorts made the list, with three — La Casa de la Playa (No. 1), Hotel Xcaret México (No. 3), and Hotel Xcaret Arte (No. 7) — belonging to the Grupo Xcaret portfolio. This all-inclusive resort, featuring 63 suites, was launched by Grupo Xcaret at the end of 2021, just south of the vibrant Playa del Carmen.
