After enjoying plenty of time at sea, I’m excited to share five essential tips to ensure your cruise vacation is as delightful as possible.

1. Choose Wisely

Select your travel companion(s) carefully. You'll likely spend more time with them than usual. That said, there are plenty of chances to enjoy some alone time, even on the water! Indulge in a massage, hit the gym, or find a quiet nook on the ship to unwind with your headphones on.

2. Join In on Activities

The ship offers an abundance of activities that you won't want to miss. If you find yourself bored at any point during your trip, you're not doing it right. Engaging in activities is a great way to meet fellow travelers. You might get so caught up in everything that you forget to take a break! Sitting by the pool can be enjoyable, but just don't let it consume your entire day!

3. Unplug

Whenever there's a lull in activity, we instinctively reach for our phones. When someone gets up from the dinner table, we do the same. Take this chance to UNPLUG! Switch your phone to airplane mode and leave it alone for a few days (except for snapping photos to share later, of course!). Why scroll through Instagram every few seconds when the views around you are far more stunning than any photo you could take?

4. Embrace Opportunities

Go for it! Join that shore excursion, try something you’ve never tasted before, and step outside your comfort zone. The most memorable moments of my vacations have come from trying new things—like sliding down the waterslide at Atlantis in Nassau that lands in a shark tank or leaping off a pirate ship in Bermuda into the sea. If it sounds appealing, do it!
