Top hotels in Latin America, as chosen by TPG

At TPG, we honor Latin America and its remarkable hospitality throughout the year.

Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo
Panama City

Last year marked a significant advancement in Panama's hotel offerings with the debut of the Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo. This expansive waterfront property is the result of an extensive historical renovation in the city's oldest neighborhood. The staff is welcoming and attentive, the atmosphere is luxuriously relaxed, and the rooms and suites are so indulgent that you might never want to leave.
Breakfast is served at Caleta, a restaurant inspired by French brasseries (though we suggest ordering room service to enjoy it on your private balcony at least once). Don’t miss the chance to visit the rooftop for cocktails and snacks at Ammi, or enjoy a rum at Arcano, a hidden speakeasy that's easy to overlook.
The guest rooms and suites blend dark wood with vibrant fabrics, featuring French doors that lead to your balcony overlooking the water. (We loved our view that also captured the Panama City skyline.) The expansive hotel pool is perfect for cooling off under the Panamanian sun (and enjoying a glass of Champagne from the nearby Pool Bar). Be sure to book a treatment at the Sofitel Spa if you're in need of a massage or facial after having too much fun in the sun. No judgment here.
Rates at the Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo begin at $311 per night.
Copacabana Palace, a Belmond hotel
Rio de Janeiro

We've all dreamed of being the girl from Ipanema, but staying at the Copacabana Palace is a pretty great alternative for a trip to Rio de Janeiro.
Rio's most famous hotel is a city treasure with its immaculate white façade (inspired by the resorts of Cannes) and has welcomed international celebrities, dignitaries, and royals since it opened its doors in 1923.
Its shine may have faded for a time, but the Copacabana Palace, revitalized under Belmond's stewardship, is now gleaming once more. The pool scene is the epitome of Rio relaxation, where lounging with a cocktail is the perfect way to soak up the sun. The guest rooms and suites are fresh and inviting; be sure to request one with a view of the ocean.
For those seeking a more active stay, the rooftop tennis court offers a great way to get some exercise in the sun. Meanwhile, we’ll be savoring the exquisite Pan-Asian cuisine at Mee, a Michelin-starred restaurant that serves everything from omakase dinners to Malaysian curry. A blend of French-inspired decor and Asian flavors — it all comes together beautifully at the Copacabana Palace.
Rates at the Belmond Copacabana Palace start at $614 per night.
The Singular Patagonia
Patagonia, Chile

Reaching the ends of the earth doesn't mean you have to compromise on luxury — just book a stay at the Singular Patagonia. This stunning hotel, nestled deep in Chilean Patagonia, is housed in the former Puerto Bories Cold Storage Plant, making it as much a museum as it is a restful retreat.
The blend of industrial design (and fun amenities — a funicular transports you from the reception to the main hotel area) and serene isolation ensures your stay at the Singular leaves you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
The property boasts guest rooms and suites that embody minimalist elegance: the expansive picture windows overlooking Ultima Esperanza Sound and the surrounding mountains are the true highlights here.
After a day (or several) of trekking through Patagonia, you'll want to secure a reservation at the hotel’s El Asador, which serves up wood-fired lamb steaks and rib-eye alongside fresh local vegetables. Refuel here before heading to your next hiking adventure.
Rates at the Singular Patagonia begin at $468 per night.
Casa San Agustin
Cartagena, Colombia

In the heart of Cartagena's Old Town lies Casa San Agustin, a hotel that pays homage to history with its centerpiece, a 300-year-old aqueduct, while showcasing a tranquil Colombian aesthetic with wooden details and a soothing color palette.
The service is warm and welcoming, and we appreciate the various ways to relax at the hotel, from the rooftop solarium to enjoying complimentary tea or coffee in the library to escape the heat. The guest rooms are inviting, featuring large picture windows and cream-tiled floors, while the balconies and bathrooms are adorned with marble and decorative tiles.
Ceviche at Alma restaurant is a delightful local specialty, as is a massage at the Aurum Spa. After a day of adventure and indulgence, don’t forget to unwind with a refreshing drink by the blue-tiled outdoor pool at the heart of the hotel.
Rates at Casa San Agustin begin at $459 per night.
Alvear Palace Hotel
Buenos Aires, Argentina

During my first visit to Buenos Aires, a taxi driver playfully pointed out that I wasn't really in South America: "You’re in the Europe of South America," he chuckled. This observation rings true as you enter the elegantly European-inspired Alvear Palace Hotel.
This luxurious hotel boasts furnishings influenced by Louis XV, alongside amenities from the renowned French fashion brand Hermes. Its guest rooms and suites are adorned with Egyptian cotton linens, plush carpets, chandeliers, and classical decor. Situated in the upscale Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires, staying here makes you feel like royalty.
One of the highlights in Buenos Aires is the Alvear Afternoon Tea, served at L'Orangerie, the hotel's stunning atrium restaurant. While we won't be shedding tears for Argentina, we'll certainly feel a pang of sadness when we have to leave this place.
Rates for the Alvear Palace Hotel begin at $410 per night.
JW Marriott El Convento Cusco
Cusco, Peru

In the heart of Cusco, Peru, the JW Marriott El Convento Cusco combines luxury with history, earning a spot on TPG's list of the best Marriott hotels in the world this year. While it boasts modern amenities, the building's origins date back to the 16th century when it functioned as a convent. Its design features grand wooden doors, impressive ceilings, and stone archways that pay homage to its historical roots.
Guests can relax in the on-site pool, steam room, and sauna, while the hotel also provides fresh oxygen in guest rooms upon request to help with acclimatization to the high altitude. The opulent rooms, featuring marble bathrooms and deep soaking tubs, offer a serene retreat before heading to the hotel's Qespi restaurant, which serves traditional Peruvian dishes like pachamanca.
Rates for the JW Marriott El Convento Cusco begin at $209 per night, or 42,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.
Sofitel Baru Calablanca Beach Resort
Bolivar, Colombia

Finding a more idyllic beach escape than the Sofitel Baru Calablanca Beach Resort, located less than an hour from Cartagena, is a challenge. This resort is designed to impress, and arriving by boat from the Cartagena Nautical Club is the most exciting and talked-about way to get there.
The resort exudes vibrant beach vibes with its use of stone, concrete, and light wood, complemented by a neutral color scheme. Every guest room and suite comes with a private balcony, and splurging on one with a hot tub is a worthwhile option. Families particularly love the resort for its Family Suites and a variety of local activities, including trips to the national aviary, coffee tastings, and braid workshops.
The resort’s pools are just steps from the beach, seamlessly blending the beauty of nature with a luxurious spot to unwind in ultimate comfort.
Rates for the Sofitel Baru Calablanca Beach Resort start at $306 per night.
Condesa DF
Mexico City

At Condesa DF, part of Marriott's Design Hotels collection, trendy outdoor dining is the highlight. This stylish venue is a favorite among locals, featuring outdoor spots like El Patio, which offers a Mexican-French fusion menu, and La Terraza, focused on Japanese cuisine.
Nestled in the verdant La Condesa neighborhood, Condesa DF boasts views of Parque Espana. Guests should consider upgrading to a room or suite with an outdoor balcony to enhance the airy, breezy design that features vibrant upholstery and touches of wood paneling.
Since its opening in 2005, Condesa DF seems to have paved the way for Ian Schrager's Edition collaboration with Marriott, which debuted three years later. This makes it a noteworthy establishment in one of Latin America's most vibrant cities.
Rates for the Condesa DF begin at $360 per night, or 32,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.
Soho House Sao Paulo
Sao Paulo

Earlier this year, the unofficial gathering spot for the world's elite opened in a quieter area of Sao Paulo's financial district: Soho House Sao Paulo. This Brazilian branch of the renowned membership club is just steps away from the Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo, Parque Trianon, and the vibrant shopping and dining scene on Avenida Paulista. Be sure to carve out time to indulge in and discover the stylish interior of this uniquely designed Soho House.
Guests can enjoy an indoor-outdoor atmosphere throughout the property, thanks to its connection to a central courtyard. The guest rooms — or bedrooms, as referred to by Soho House — are stylish and inviting, featuring high ceilings, modern furnishings, and a blend of reclaimed wood with Portuguese-inspired tiles. For a luxurious experience, consider upgrading to a "Big" or "Big Plus" bedroom, which include perks like a soaking tub and a private terrace. Downstairs, savor a meal in the courtyard or at the first-floor bar — we highly recommend trying the Brazilian tapioca, a flatbread filled with fruit.
For those interested in exploring other accommodations, Soho House Sao Paulo partners with the luxury Cidade Matarazzo complex, which is also home to the nearby Rosewood Sao Paulo.
Currently, access to Soho House Sao Paulo is limited to members. Members can reserve a room by visiting the website and logging in with their membership details or by contacting the property directly.
