United and Marriott offer: Select elite members can reap bonus rewards on flights and hotel stays
Since the launch of Marriott Bonvoy in 2018, Titanium Elite and Ambassador Elite members have qualified for United Airlines' entry-level Premier Silver status through the RewardsPlus partnership. Similarly, United Premier Gold, Platinum, 1K, and Global Services members have been able to achieve Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status.
This partnership has allowed mid- and upper-tier United MileagePlus members to attain Marriott status (and higher-tier Marriott elite members to gain entry-level United status), but it hasn't provided any further incentive to engage with the brand.
That has changed for a limited time.
From now until Aug. 31, Marriott Bonvoy Titanium and Ambassador members, along with United Premier Gold, Platinum, 1K, and Global Services members, can earn additional United miles during their Marriott stays and bonus Marriott points for flying with United.
Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting new offer.
Accumulate bonus Marriott points and United miles
MARRIOTTTo qualify for the promotion, you must first connect your Marriott Bonvoy and United MileagePlus accounts:
- Members holding Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite or Ambassador Elite status can register for the program at this link to obtain United MileagePlus Premier Silver status.
- Members with United MileagePlus Premier Gold, Platinum, or 1K status can sign up for the program at this link to achieve Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status.
If you booked your flights using miles or a mix of miles and cash, you will not qualify for the bonus Marriott points. Similarly, stays redeemed at Marriott properties will not earn you bonus United miles; you need to stay on a qualifying paid rate.
Moreover, any qualifying stays must be completed by Aug. 31, with at least one night checked in prior to that date.
Important terms and conditions to keep in mind
ZACH GRIFF/DinogoBonvoy members must choose to earn hotel points rather than airline miles to be eligible for bonus points on United flights. Additionally, this bonus can be earned once for each qualifying itinerary. Consequently, a round-trip United flight would yield only 750 Marriott points, regardless of the fare. Furthermore, award tickets or those booked using a mix of miles and cash are not eligible.
The price of your Marriott stay does not influence the miles you can earn; a $100 stay at a budget Marriott brand will earn the same 500 United miles as a $2,000 stay at a St. Regis or Ritz-Carlton. Still, registering takes just a few seconds, so it’s worth it.
If you had flights or stays booked prior to July 1 (when the promotion started), you can still qualify for the bonus points or miles, provided your flight or hotel stay starts before Aug. 31.
Visit the promotion's landing page for complete terms and conditions.
In summary
This promotion with Marriott and United is similar to the partnership between American Airlines and Hyatt, which allows elite members to earn extra points when engaging with either company. Hyatt elite members can earn bonus World of Hyatt points for American flights (1 point per dollar spent), while American elite members can accrue additional AAdvantage miles for Hyatt stays (1 mile per dollar). They also frequently provide status matches or fast-track offers.
In contrast, the Hyatt-American partnership is open to all elite members across both programs, while this offer is exclusive to higher-tier elite members.
Nonetheless, it’s fantastic to see a new opportunity for frequent travelers to earn even more rewards during their journeys.
