Nairobi, Kenya
There's no bad time to visit Nairobi, but the peak summer season is particularly appealing. In January, expect about four days of rain and average temperatures around 23°C/73°F. It's an ideal month for a safari adventure in Nairobi National Park, located just outside the city. This unique park offers the rare opportunity to see black rhinos, lions, hyenas, gazelles, warthogs, zebras, giraffes, and buffalo with a skyline backdrop.
Southern Thailand
Many consider Southern Thailand to be what Thailand was like before the influx of backpackers. In January, which is the peak month for tourism in Thailand, you can relax on a secluded beach near Ao Khanom while keeping an eye out for the rare and stunning pink dolphins. It’s also wise to be aware of the off-peak times: the monsoon season typically runs from July to October. In 2024, Ramadan will occur during March and April, with Eid-ul-adha taking place in mid-June.
India
The dry, cooler winter months from October to April are perfect for visiting India, with February being particularly favorable. Make sure to include at least one long-distance rail journey in your itinerary—there's nothing quite like waking up on an Indian sleeper train speeding across the plains.
It's advisable to steer clear of the rain-soaked monsoon season from May to September unless your destination is the dry region of Ladakh in the northern part of the country.
Benin
Benin is establishing itself as a leading West African hub for art and culture. In an effort to return historical artifacts, the country is set to launch the Museum of the Epic of the Amazons and Kings of Dahomey in late 2024, featuring invaluable pieces returned from France. So why are we not advising you to visit in December? You certainly should—but mark January 10 on your calendar for Benin’s famous voodoo festival in Ouidah and Porto Novo. It’s a cultural experience you won't want to miss.
