Later, I noticed the room felt unusually warm despite the air conditioning being on. Investigating, I found the balcony door wide open behind the curtains. Though I closed and locked it, I mentioned this to my wife upon her return hours later. The balcony is shared with room 401 where our friends stayed, located on the fourth floor facing the street—no easy access except for an extraordinary climber! Notably, CCTV cameras recorded all entries into our room and room 401 around the clock. We suspect this theft was an inside job. When police arrived on April 27th, Mary and the hotel manager acted as interpreters during our interaction. They seemed eager for us to leave town, insisting we stay until late the following week to receive a stamped police report listing our stolen valuables (cash, credit cards, and jewelry), valued at $3,500 USD, as declared in my statement on the Hue Serene Palace hotel letterhead from room 402, signed and dated at 2 pm on April 27, 2018, in the presence of police, the hotel manager, my wife, and staff. After completing formalities with the police in our hotel room, our driver took us to the Immigration Police office to confirm the loss of our passports. Mary assisted as interpreter, as the immigration officer did not speak English. The officer grew irate and banged the table when we attempted to write 'stolen' on our statement, pressured by Mary's undisclosed words in Vietnamese. Intimidated, we settled for 'lost' instead of 'stolen' on the signed and stamped documents required for our exit visas. Relying on Mary's promise to secure the necessary stamps and signatures by the next day, we departed Hue for Da Nang. True to her word, Mary sent photos of the signed documents via WhatsApp that evening upon our arrival in Da Nang, claiming to have found another open immigration office for signing. The Serene Palace Hotel then dispatched the originals to us in Da Nang the following morning, at their expense. We felt coerced into leaving Hue prematurely, suspecting the hotel management's desire to expedite our departure. Although we never received official police copies itemizing our stolen valuables, we managed to photograph our statements written during police interviews in room 402. In total, it took an additional 12 days before we could exit Vietnam, needing travel documents from Vietnamese Immigration to fly to Ho Chi Minh City, where we applied for emergency passports, exit visas, and re-entry visas to Malaysia.

Mary, quản lý bàn lễ tân, cho biết qua điện thoại rằng két sắt đã trống khi bị đứa phục vụ mở ra, vì vậy chúng tôi quay lại khách sạn để làm thủ tục báo cáo cảnh sát v.v. Chúng tôi tin rằng đứa phục vụ nói đúng sự thật. Thực tế, chúng tôi nghi ngờ vụ trộm đã xảy ra vào sáng hôm trước khi chúng tôi rời khỏi. Ngày đó, chúng tôi đã ra ngoài đến giữa buổi chiều khi tôi trở về một mình để nghỉ ngơi. Sau một lúc, tôi nhận ra phòng nóng dù máy điều hòa đã bật. Tôi đi kiểm tra và thấy cửa ra ban công đang mở rộng. Tôi không để ý nhiều và đã đóng và khóa nó nhưng đã nhắc đến vợ khi cô trở về vài giờ sau đó. Ban công này chia sẻ với phòng bên cạnh số 401 nơi bạn bè của chúng tôi lưu trú, nhưng ở tầng 4 hướng ra đường phố. Bạn cần phải là Người Nhện để leo lên đó! Chú ý rằng có camera CCTV ghi lại 24/7 mọi lần vào phòng của chúng tôi và phòng kế bên số 401. Chúng tôi cho rằng vụ trộm này có thể là "vụ làm từ bên trong". Khi cảnh sát đến vào ngày 27 tháng 4, quản lý bàn lễ tân Mary, cùng với quản lý khách sạn, đóng vai trò làm phiên dịch cho chúng tôi với cảnh sát trong phòng. Cả hai đều rất nỗ lực để chúng tôi rời thành phố, nói rằng nếu chúng tôi ở lại đến cuối tuần sau thì mới có thể nhận được bản sao đã đóng dấu và ký tên của báo cáo cảnh sát liệt kê tài sản bị mất (tiền mặt, thẻ tín dụng và trang sức). Chúng tôi không biết Mary nói gì với ông ta bằng tiếng Việt. Chúng tôi cảm thấy bị ám sát bởi ông ta và bị buộc phải viết từ "bị mất" thay vì "bị đánh cắp". Chúng tôi cần những tuyên bố đã ký và đóng dấu này để có thể lấy được visa xuất cảnh để rời Việt Nam. Chúng tôi chọn rời Huế và lái xe trở lại Đà Nẵng khi Mary cam đoan rằng cô sẽ lấy được những tuyên bố đã ký và đóng dấu vào ngày hôm sau. Thực tế, Mary đã gửi ảnh của những tuyên bố đã ký và đóng dấu qua WhatsApp cho chúng tôi vào buổi tối sau khi chúng tôi đến Đà Nẵng, và cho biết cô đã tìm được một văn phòng cảnh sát di trú khác để ký. Khách sạn Serene Palace sau đó đã gửi bản gốc cho chúng tôi tại Đà Nẵng bằng xe riêng vào sáng hôm sau miễn phí. This hotel is a solid choice for a 3-star accommodation, offering a convenient location to explore various places, although situated in an alley, which makes transportation slightly inconvenient. The service provided by the staff is professional, rooms are clean, and overall facilities are satisfactory. However, the view from the hotel is not particularly outstanding.

Situated in a narrow alley, the hotel accommodates cars of moderate size but lacks dedicated parking spaces, requiring guests to arrange for parking themselves. The rooms are clean; however, the soundproofing is somewhat inadequate, and the wifi on higher floors tends to be a bit patchy. Across the street, there is a motorbike rental service, and nearby, a charming cafe adds to the appeal. All in all, it's a decent choice

Great experience. Despite the hotel being nestled deep in the alley, the service quality is good, the room space is beautiful, the price is reasonable, and the breakfast buffet is complimentary.

The staff were incredibly enthusiastic and friendly. I rented a car from the hotel and received very enthusiastic recommendations on places to eat, places to visit, gas stations, and also received great advice on the quality of the cars from the staff. I must also commend the staff for their English-speaking abilities. The room was spacious, airy, and I was fortunate to have rented a room with a balcony offering a beautiful view. The hotel's location is also convenient, situated in the city center, very close to the Perfume River and Truong Tien Bridge, making travel very convenient. The only drawback was that the bathtub wasn't very clean. Nonetheless, I was very satisfied with my stay. If I return to Hue in the future, I will definitely choose this hotel again.

Tôi cũng muốn khen ngợi đội ngũ nhân viên vì khả năng giao tiếp tiếng Anh của họ. Phòng rất rộng rãi và thoáng mát. Tôi may mắn được thuê phòng có ban công với tầm nhìn đẹp. Vị trí của khách sạn rất thuận tiện, nằm ngay trung tâm thành phố, gần sông Hương và cầu Trường Tiền, giúp việc di chuyển rất tiện lợi. Điểm trừ duy nhất là bồn tắm không được sạch sẽ lắm. Tuy nhiên, tôi vẫn rất hài lòng với dịch vụ này. Nếu có dịp trở lại Huế, tôi sẽ chọn lại khách sạn này.

Excellent place to stay. Quiet location in the evening for sleeping, but is just around the corner from all the eating places. Breakfast is a limited, but enough is on offer to fill your tummy. The staff were excellent, and the room was big (we got the balcony and we would sit out of a night and early in the morning). Well priced, and would highly recommend.

We enjoy a lot in this hotel. The room was so clean and comfortable, rather hot in the bathroom. One suggestion is that the air conditioner should not be in front of the bed. The service is excellent and especially Sarah has been very attentive to us, taking care of us at all times and offering us alternatives and means of transport for our visits in the city. Good work Sarah. Excellent quality/price ratio.

Clean and nice room with very friendly staffs. They were very accommodating. Hotel is walking distance to “pho diem”, walking city, where they close off cars/motobikes’ access to allow patrons to walk safely to restaurants/shops. Highly recommend Serene Hotel.

Nice staff, very friendly and helpfull. Perfect location to see the old city of Hue. Rooms were excellent, traveling with two kids between 10-14 years old. We had a very pleasent stay here in Hue. We would recomment this hotel for your holliday.

Wonderful hotel and staff. Centrally located with many eateries, coffee shops, laundry and massage places. Very clean, large rooms. Good breakfast which is included every day. The front staff are very helpful in providing any information. Very impressed with both the staff and the hotel.

Excellent hotel in the centre of the city. Our room was fantastic and very clean. The staff were very helpful in booking any transfers we needed and made sure the bus we booked was excellent also. Our stay also included breakfast which had a mix of western and traditional options. I would highly recommend staying here.

Constant noise throughout the day with children playing loudly. Neither parents nor staff address the issue. A pool is necessary!

Across the street, there is a motorbike rental service, and nearby, a charming cafe adds to the appeal. All in all, it's a decent choice

Great experience. Despite the hotel being nestled deep in the alley, the service quality is good, the room space is beautiful, the price is reasonable, and the breakfast buffet is complimentary.

The staff were incredibly enthusiastic and friendly. I rented a car from the hotel and received very enthusiastic recommendations on places to eat, places to visit, gas stations, and also received great advice on the quality of the cars from the staff. I must also commend the staff for their English-speaking abilities. The room was spacious, airy, and I was fortunate to have rented a room with a balcony offering a beautiful view. The hotel's location is also convenient, situated in the city center, very close to the Perfume River and Truong Tien Bridge, making travel very convenient. The only drawback was that the bathtub wasn't very clean. Nonetheless, I was very satisfied with my stay. If I return to Hue in the future, I will definitely choose this hotel again.

Đội ngũ nhân viên rất nhiệt tình và thân thiện. Tôi đã thuê xe tại khách sạn và nhận được sự tư vấn nhiệt tình về các nhà hàng, trạm xăng, cũng như chất lượng xe rất tốt từ các nhân viên. Tôi cũng muốn khen ngợi đội ngũ nhân viên vì khả năng giao tiếp tiếng Anh của họ. Phòng rất rộng rãi và thoáng mát. Tôi may mắn được thuê phòng có ban công với tầm nhìn đẹp. Vị trí của khách sạn rất thuận tiện, nằm ngay trung tâm thành phố, gần sông Hương và cầu Trường Tiền, giúp việc di chuyển rất tiện lợi. Điểm trừ duy nhất là bồn tắm không được sạch sẽ lắm. Tuy nhiên, tôi vẫn rất hài lòng với dịch vụ này. Nếu có dịp trở lại Huế, tôi sẽ chọn lại khách sạn này.

Amazing stay, great location, perfect organization. We were a group of seven, many of them the first time in Vietnam. All was super organized and prepared, from early check in, to payment, to breakfast, transport etc The facilities are modern and well maintained, the staff friendly and very professional. Excellent place to stay. Quiet location in the evening for sleeping, but is just around the corner from all the eating places. Breakfast is a limited, but enough is on offer to fill your tummy. The staff were excellent, and the room was big (we got the balcony and we would sit out of a night and early in the morning). Well priced, and would highly recommend.

We enjoy a lot in this hotel. The room was so clean and comfortable, rather hot in the bathroom. One suggestion is that the air conditioner should not be in front of the bed. The service is excellent and especially Sarah has been very attentive to us, taking care of us at all times and offering us alternatives and means of transport for our visits in the city. Good work Sarah. Excellent quality/price ratio.

Clean and nice room with very friendly staffs. They were very accommodating. Hotel is walking distance to “pho diem”, walking city, where they close off cars/motobikes’ access to allow patrons to walk safely to restaurants/shops. Highly recommend Serene Hotel.

Nice staff, very friendly and helpfull. Perfect location to see the old city of Hue. Rooms were excellent, traveling with two kids between 10-14 years old. We had a very pleasent stay here in Hue. We would recomment this hotel for your holliday.

Wonderful hotel and staff. Centrally located with many eateries, coffee shops, laundry and massage places. Very clean, large rooms. Good breakfast which is included every day. The front staff are very helpful in providing any information. Very impressed with both the staff and the hotel.

A wonderful place to stay. Conveniently located down a quiet alley in the middle of Hue. Very friendly staff and wonderful breakfast selection. Room was spacious gif 3 of us and well appointed with comfortable beds. Highly recommend staying here during your time in Hue

Hotel céntrico y bien comunicado, el personal muy amable y dispuesto a ayudar en las visitas, desplazamientos así como en cualquier duda que tengas. el desayuno es muy variado teniendo platos locales deliciosos. Se nota que ha sido reformado recientemente ya que las habitaciones están muy limpias. Puedes dejar tus maletas para tus visitas de última hora y tomar una ducha antes de partir a tu nuevo destino

Excellent hotel in the centre of the city. Our room was fantastic and very clean. The staff were very helpful in booking any transfers we needed and made sure the bus we booked was excellent also. Our stay also included breakfast which had a mix of western and traditional options. I would highly recommend staying here.

Mình đặt phòng lưu trú tại khách sạn cho gia đình về Huế chơi. Khách sạn nằm trong một con hẻm cạnh khu phố Tây sầm uất, phòng gia đình rộng rãi, thoáng mát, bữa sáng ngon, các bạn nhân viên lại rất vui vẻ và thân thiện. Mình vẫn sẽ lựa chọn khi đến Huế vào lần tới.
