We were only in Da Nang for a night before flying out early the next morning so we weren't to fussed about where we stayed, and went with a recommendation of the guide book. The hotel is poorly located in terms of getting to a restaurant, most are on the other side of the river, about 20 minute walk away. The hotel was very old inside and the room was dusty. The staff were friendly but had trouble understanding english. There are plenty of other options around and therefore I would advise anyone to avoid this hotel.

The room we booked was stuffy with a smell of air freshener and mildew and the Windows we're screwed shut. I asked for a better room at a higher price. We moved to a large room with French Windows opening on the river. However, the air conditioner did not work, the advertised free wifi was not working during our stay, I killed two very large roaches in our room, and plaster was flaking very badly from one wall. Finally, there was a question about the price of the upgrade regarding how much the online booking company pays the hotel in VN money versus how much we paid the booking agency and so on. The difference was not great, but it was not mentioned at the time of changing rooms and not clear as to why. I will recommend Rough Guides replaces the Y Van Hotel in Da Nang with a better budget choice.
