Recommend if you want to walk up to the Lantau Peak or do not want to have night activities in the city area. But if you want to stay at hostel in the city area, I would only recommend YHA Mei Ho.Avoid horrible but exorbitant youth hostels in old buildings or mansions. Public facilities of the buildings (lifts, fire service facilities) are often broken and the escape way is blocked, which is life-threatening. Many people are crowded in a few small rooms of an apartment, and the three-compartment bed shakes whenever someone on the bed moves. The narrow and thin mattress on the lower bunk is placed on the ground, so you have to crawl into the bed like a dog and cannot sit upright. Your head will hit the ceiling if you are in the top bunk. The room is dirty, messy, and smelly, and there are insect bites that cause skin diseases. The sound insulation is poor. You hear noise from the street and inside the apartment. You cannot sleep as someone comes in and out and turns on and off the light all night. The place is poorly ventilated and people inhale viruses and get sick. Many people queue up to share a small, smelly, dirty wet toilet with a shower (the shower head is above the toilet seat). The water takes 20 minutes to heat, and no hot water after 3 or 4 minutes of showering. The drain pipe is smelly and sometimes blocked. It is unsafe as there are many strangers in the dorms / private rooms / common areas of the apartment, and things are stolen. Though there might be staff on duty (on another floor), no one will enforce any so-called house rule. There are private rooms but are sometimes more expensive than a four-star hotel. Many people can't withstand and check out after staying for a night (without getting any refund, the hostel owners are happy). Youth hostels sell beds on different platforms, but the number of beds left is not immediately updated (& beds may be oversold). Youth hostels spend a lot to promote "good reviews". Beware. Some youth hostels also operate shadow (unlicensed) hostels. These kinds of low-cost but high-price hostels are a nightmare for backpackers. You might find them even worse than staying at 24-hour McDonalds.

It is a very remote place you can escape from the noise of city. Some visitors stay there in order to see the sunraise by going up to the near mountain.

It would be even better if the TV in the dining hall can be connected to a public antenna to watch news reports. …

The location is not bad. You have to walk 20 minutes to the bus station. There is a small incline. The health condition is average. The service attitude is acceptable. The environment is acceptable. …

It's better than expected. The room is heated and it's not too cold even if the outside temperature is only 8 degrees.Very convenient for people who want to climb mountains tomorrow. The campground provides barbecue grills and kitchens, and tableware is provided even if you buy takeout. But you have to bring your own ingredients, it’s best to buy them in Tung Chung before coming in.The staff is very friendly and helpful
