Suggestions for the owner/management of Mathis Lodge, to make a new Google map for the pick up/drop off point, which is when I took guests here using the Google map, the road was very bad and the car couldn't go up, luckily there were local people who told me that there is a pickup/drop point before going through the damaged road. And after I searched, there was already a sign for it, since I arrived late afternoon, the sign wasn't very clear, so I used Google maps as a reference.Hopefully we can soon create a new Google map for pick up/drop points, continued success Mathis lodge, Rahayu🙏

Beautiful place where you have to “work” a bit to get there as you are taking by a small shuttle bus up a windy and steep hill road 😀Magnificent retreat in the mountains with really nice rooms.Only reason for not providing a five star rating is:*Pool area should have more shade* the pathways on the hotel are steep and rough with no handrails which makes it difficult for older people to get around in a safe manner.Other than that we really enjoyed an awesome stay here

Had the most wonderful stay at Mathis Lodge.It was our first time in Bali and was our first stay on the island before travelling onto Ubud and Uluwatu. We absolutely loved it here, it had everything. We did a sunset cruise, a sunrise trek, a floating breakfast and a traditional Balinese massage for two. We honestly felt that we could have left back to the UK after leaving Mathis Lodge as we did everything we wanted to!The staff are extremely friendly, professional and helpful. All needs were met through Whatsapp and the kitchen and bar staff were always happy to see you. Even with lots of other arrivals on the weekend, we felt like we were on our own private resort!I would 10/10 recommend staying here if you want a 'fly and flop' retreat.. although it is not for the less able-bodied, there are steep climbs to the lodges!Thank you so much for your hospitality and hope to be back soon!

Thank you to the Mathis Amed hotel, we had a superb time in this establishment. The staff are simply lovely and always available for us. The food is excellent, we tasted the best dishes of our stay in Amed. The swimming pool is magnificent, with a breathtaking view, and the accommodations are super well equipped and magnificent.We recommend this hotel 100% and we will be back with great pleasure!

Stay for 2 nights in this hotel which offers you a breathtaking view. The shuttle service is very well organized. A team available who shares good advice if you want to visit the sites by scooter. The breakfast is qualitative and complete.

All is perfect. They said difficult road lead to beautiful places. That's true. This place is breathtaking. The view is incredible. The food is amazing. The pool is nice. The staff is very friendly. The room is comfy. Will go back again everytime go to Amed. The most important thing... Never go by your own car, just use their shuttle that come every hour, because the road is broken & difficult to access. The view is to the east, means you will get the sunrise. Also you can see the hills & sea from the top. Very quiet.

Stay rating minus 1 star out of 5 - We stayed here for two nights and our experience was not so great. We were a couple and booked a deluxe villa. Instead of a king/ queen bed, single beds were joined together. We had trouble sleeping as the beds repeatedly drifted apart (see photo). We also found a few bedbugs on the mattress as well.The room had many geckos that were constantly squeaking, clicking and growling for the entire night. We are petrified, annoyed and jaded as we could not sleep properly for two nights.You should also be prepared for a 3 am wake up alarm by 100's of neighborhood roosters rhythmic and unending crowing early in the morning (they scream until 6:30 am continuously).We complained to the administration about the bed and the gecko issue, they offered an apology and a free massage voucher at the spa. We politely declined the latter and did not have a choice but to oblige the former!!!The resort - The villa itself is positioned in a strange location up the hill where they have a shuttle downhill to the resort every hour. This fact was intelligently inconspicuous on their booking page (and in Agoda and other websites). The ride uphill is bumpy and perilous, matching the shuttle time is always tricky considering their hourly frequency. The resort is located in between two hills where you can experience a stunning view of the ocean from the restaurant. The resort is not landscaped well as all we could see was roof of the restaurant from our room (room number 8). If you decide to still visit this place, ask for a room with a better view.We tried to meander around the resort but there was nothing exiting as all you have is a swimming pool and the villas. Apart from this, there is nothing to view around the resort. They offer trekking expeditions if you are game for it.Food - the food served at the restaurant is average, expensive and suited for western pallette and not for us Indians. I would not rate food harshly as food is an issue for Indians across Amed. If you are an Indian, i strongly recommend staying in Ubud as there are many indian restaurants around Ubud and it's a wonderful location as well.
