We were a bit hesitant to stay here after reading all the bad reviews, but I believe all the bad reviews come from the guests who booked the old, cheaper rooms at the back.The 2 bungalows at the front are newer, cleaner and much more comfortable.We completely enjoyed our stay.The couple running the place are very friendly and helpful.We rented a brand new scooter from them for a very affordable price.

Fabulous view of Lake from Merlyn Guesthouse in Samosir Island, especially in evening. Front rooms are newly constructed with reasonable price, back rooms are bit old rooms but again, according to it's price, it's worthy staying there

Really sweet, helpful owners. The room was fine for the price, only the bed had a few stains. The bathroom needs maintenance, such as the shower tap that leaked a lot, despite still good water pressure.Located directly on Toba Lake so you can swim.The biggest disadvantage was the nuisance at night... a group of local tourists (different every night) stayed up talking and shouting very loudly until late at night and early in the morning. Because of the thin walls and opening in the wall you could not sleep.But again the owners were super sweet.

Terrible experience. Had two paid and confirmed room, but when we came to check in it was fully booked. No rooms, no understanding or help what so ever. Terrible!

I accidentally ended here in 2013 after arriving on Samosir Island. With the little island in front of this place you can climb literally on an island on an island on an island!

The room looked dirty, the bed too, no sheets on the bed. The garden was unkempt, we looked for another location because this accommodation is really not up to European standards.
