It was nice seeing the everyday happenings of the Javanese people. There were issues regarding payment, however. The two couples that used this outfit were charged 300k per person for the transportation and entrance fee. We were charged 450k each. Additionally, our tour guide rushed up the mountain and left us behind only to be waiting at our vehicle expecting a tip (no I didn't tip him). Other tour guides were extremely informative and helpful. One cooked sausages over a fire at sunset point. On the way to the ferry we were informed that the transportation was 100k per travel from the train station and to the ferry. This is somewhat reasonable as ride share services are very sparse. Gojek quoted for 75k but getting to our place was difficult due to steep hills. The idea behind the hotel is great. They change houses frequently and spread the money around. According to the one who organizes this his program assists miners in learning English by being guides or drivers and gets them out of the mines. If this is true that is fantastic I'm somewhat lewrh on trusting what this individual said. Looking at other reviews it seems that we had an unfortunate experience. I attempted to contact the individual who charged us more via email call and text with no response. Use our experience as a way to protect yourself and have a wonderful trip to the beautiful Mt Ijen and living amongst the locals. Safe travels all.

Rudimentary comfort for Westerners but locally of a good standard. No better way to discover Javanese rural life. Authentic. The village is surrounded by magnificent rice terraces. Walk of several hours possible. Excursion question from Ijen very good. Honest price. Welcome to his family.

When we arrived the accomodation reallydidn't match with the photos. Next thing when I woke up next to my head was cockroach and two of them were under my shoes... horrible...The next day we check-out and pay whole payment (3 nights). I told them not to cancel our booking to avoid complications with booking company but they canceled it and said I didn't arrive. Made me realy angry.Bad experience!!! Do not recomend...
