My experience was staying in a room that cost 1.7 million on the first floor which was previously a Dapoer Karimah room (a kind of cafe) which was transformed into a boarding house at the end of 2022.Excess:- Strategic location, the Jatipadang Poncol neighborhood is quite clean and tidy, close to food stalls and laundry- The room area is quite largeLack:The room I stayed in was very lacking in features as a room costing 1.7 million, the reasons:1. Even though the room area is large, it feels cramped, because the room layout is lacking, I will explain in the next points2. In the room there was a Kitchen Counter from the cafe before the room was transformed into a boarding room, this actually became a negative thing, because the size was too big, its location also prevented access to other things in the room, as a result the room felt cramped. This kitchen counter is one unit as a table, cupboard and sink. It's better to replace it with a regular work desk, a separate sink with a standard size that is hung/attached to the wall, then a separate cupboard instead of a kitchen counter like that.3. There is thick moss/mold on the wall right behind where the kitchen counter sits. So if you sit with your head against the wall, your head will get molded. Honestly, this makes you quite disgusted, especially for a room costing 1.7 million per month.4. The bathroom is awkward, under the stairs, so it feels really narrow because the roof is at the bottom of the stairs.5. There are no hangers for clothes etc. in the room apart from the bathroom, very lacking for a room costing 1.7 million6. The glass in the room is like an aquarium, considering that this room used to be a cafe, so if you open the curtains a little you can see everything from the surrounding street, even though we want enough sunlight. Privacy is really lacking if you want to open the curtains.7. There is a back door that connects directly to the boarding house owner's house, it can be accessed by the boarding house owner at any time, so there is less privacy. At the beginning of the rental, I agreed that the landlord would not access it, but at that time, when I had stayed for about a week, my boarding house owner still entered my boarding house without permission through the back door.Because of these many shortcomings, I only felt comfortable staying for a month. It's better, before turning a cafe into a boarding room, to renovate it first so that it becomes a proper room. Because with a price of 1.7-1.8 million/month, we should be able to get a boarding house that is really comfortable to live in, but what we get is actually a lot of shortcomings.
