I had a great experience staying with Arno , Margarita and staff.The traditional huts were a highlight, clean and comfortable.The food was great with some local delicacies and hearty meals for hungry surfers.Arno made good calls each day to get us the best surf in the area available. The boat was the perfect vessel to get us to a variety of breaks safely and timely.A great homely vibe at the camp with very caring local staff.On request the land based excursions to the most stunning waterfalls and a local village were also highlights.

Accommodation:Sumba Surf Camp exceeded my expectations with its spacious, super nice rooms complete with A/C, mosquito nets, and safes for valuables. The thrice-weekly room cleaning strikes a nice balance between comfort and eco-consciousness.Surf:It’s an authentic camp that respects the waves and your autonomy. No pampering in the water, just pure surfing with sound advice. The owner, Arnaud, makes a point of not having too many guests (though he could) and tries to coordinate with other resorts around to avoid overcrowded waves. Quite a few surf spots, accessible by the camp’s boats and cars : the Hole when swell's small, Pinnacles, Johnny's... And I just love those legburners on the point break right in front of the camp.Food:Big highlight! The quantity's there and that's the most important for surfers. And the quality hits right on the spot: in what surf camp do you see crepes at every breakfast, freshly baked cakes every afternoon? How do you make a hundred pizzas every friday in a place as remote and underdevelopped as Sumba? And the communal dining area's super chill, great family vibe, natural socializing.Staff and Service:Ok, the Sumbanese staff may not mimic some of Bali's higher hospitality level, but their work is heartfelt and their vibe is cool.Activities :The pool overlooks the wave front spot, there's a massage area with a good therapist for unwinding after 2 sessions in the sameday. There's also a waterfall one hour away by car, a limestone cave 15 minutes away by foot, great panoramas and crazy sunsets.Location:Sumba's raw to say the least. Its nature is beautiful and still preserved, and I hope it'll stay that way for as long as possible.Value for Money:The value for money is excellent, with all-inclusive comfort in what looks like the middle of nowhere.Sustainability:The camp embraces sustainability and integrates local culture. It's pretty cool.So, yeah: memorable waves, welcoming spirit of Arnaud (he does get up on the wrong side of the bed sometimes but he's French, it's in his DNA) and a commitment to preserving local waves and culture.The only note for improvement is the water pressure, but Arnaud's already on it.To future guests: brace yourself for an authentic surf camp experience that values your freedom and autonomy in one of the most authentic islands of Indo.
